Ch#28 Some Day

I sat beside Louis and observed him while he dressed up Mr.Hudson's injuries. Something about him has changed. When he treated me, he did not have this determined look in his eyes. But now, he looks very resolute in his job. He looks different.

"You are Alana Anderson, right? The one who joined recently?", Mr.Hudson's question interrupted my train of thoughts.

"Yes", I replied while he sighed. I could read the emotion held in his eyes. He felt guilty, he held himself responsible for all this.

"Sir, if you don't mind, can I ask you something?", I queried and he nodded in response.

"Do you work with Dave?", I blurted out to which he  laughed.

"You're quite straightforward, huh?"

"Yeah, I guess", I replied to him monotonously.

"What kind of an answer would make you satisfied?"

Just reply with a yes or a no.

I raised my eyebrows at his absurd question to which he only smiled.

"I don't work for that scumbag. I did not know that he had a basement in this building. I did not know about students being sent here. I'm sorry", he put his head down in shame. I could see honesty in his eyes and over it, I saw pain.

That was enough for me. I left the place and joined Yohan, Beth and Ellis.

"Did you ask him about Dave?"

"Yes, Beth. He isn't Dave's puppet."

"What makes you trust him?", Ellis hissed.

"I don't trust him, I trust my instincts."

I decided to give him a chance to speak up. We spoke no more and waited for Mr.Hudson. There must be a reason for Dave to send him here after all these months. This might lead us to where we are headed off, we might finally know just why exactly we are trapped in this Base.

Soon enough Mr.Hudson joined the student body. I glanced over Riley. Her gaze, which was directed towards Mr.Hudson, was burning with hatred.

Why does she hate him so much?

"Why are you here?", Riley barked. Mr.Hudson's gaze lingered over Riley for a while before he answered her question. He had the same look of love and affection that my father has when he sees me after I wake up from a nightmare.

Why does she hate him so much when he only loves her?

"First of all, let me clear that I am not one of Dave's men. Yesterday, I came to the Academy uninformed and I overheard Dave's conversation with his men. When I confronted him, he beat me up together with his goons and locked me up in his cabin. Earlier today when I asked him about the students, he dragged me here to see and go through what you people experience." He sighed and shook his head before continuing. "I am extremely sorry for all this mess. I was the one who helped him build this rehabilitation centre. But I had no idea about his actions. I did not know about the existence of such a place in this Academy. I did not know about the tortures."

Conversation? Rehabilitation centre?

"What did you hear from Dave's conversation?", Ellis voiced out my thoughts. Mr.Hudson hesitated to answer.

"He has become a monster. He is not the person I once knew. He is turning out to be what people used to call him. He is planning to kill you all, for-for...."

"For what?", Riley bellowed.

"For your organs. He is going to sell them."

The student body gasped. I was dumbstruck. Beating the hell out of us wasn't enough for him? He now wants us all dead? I could see fear rebuilding in the students. They started to disperse. They did not want to listen to anything anymore. Everyone wanted to vanish into thin air. We were all barely coping up. No matter how much he abuses us, we knew he wouldn't let us die. I could see that the hope which I barely brought back in them, was faltering yet again. They neither have their family who would search for them and want them back alive. Nor do they have the strength to get out of this place alive.

I looked at Ellis, Yohan and Beth. Right when I was about to walk up to them, they walked away from me. I knew what exactly was running in their head. Being the 'Leaders' isn't an easy job. They feel responsible for what the students will have to go through from now on ahead. Every student here looked up to them, they expected that they would free them from this hell some day. Although that some day did not have a date, they had hopes that it would come one day. But with this revelation of Dave's plans, that some day is never going to be known.
