Ok, it is official. Finnick is avoiding me. All I want is to talk to him about arranging a date to finish off our project, but every time he spots me, he scampers off as if I have some highly contagious deadly disease! It is most infuriating. Determined to finally corner him I say my quick goodbyes to Torryn and scamper off after the retreating Finnick. This is the fourth time these past few days I have been trying to capture his attention! He even swapped his seat in Science!
"Hey Finnick!" I yell, causing the crowds of students standing around to look over to our exchange with interest.
He turns and looks at me nervously, before continuing down the corridor, actually running away from me! So what do I do? I continue to chase him. A few weeks ago, I would not have dreamed of acting in such an unladylike manner, but a girl's got to do what a girl's got to do. Ungraciously I push through the crowds of people on their way to last lesson, pleased when I see Finnick has been stopped by the music room door, as some of the students are transporting shiny new instruments inside. Defeat highlights his features as he turns around and sees me almost on top of him.
"Finnick!" I snap, now having him cornered. "What the hell is your problem?" I grumble with my hands on my hips.
"P-problem... I don't have a problem..." He stumbles over his words uneasily.
"Then why have you been running away from me all week?"
"I just don't want to upset your boyfriend... he's scary man." Finnick reveals, looking around anxiously as if he expects to be beaten up by my so-called boyfriend for even looking at me.
"I don't have a boyfriend Finnick." I explain impatiently.
"Cohen Kefalas I mean. He certainly acts like one – that or your guard dog."
Is this true? Do people who do not know we are 'cousins' think we are dating? That cannot be right, right? Goodness, the worst part is I do not even feel worried about this, or the need to correct Finnick. I guess in some way being Cohen's girlfriend does not sound too bad... Hold on, what am I thinking? I am supposed to be in love with Tyrian! Thinking about it now, I realise that I have not been thinking about Tyrian much at all whilst in America, and since Cohen and I became friends. Does this mean something? Surely not, Cohen and I do not like each other that way! He may be easy on the eye but we are just friends. Although the way Trixie shamelessly flirts with Cohen has been getting to me lately... Ugh, just shut up brain! Cohen and I are friends – that is it! He can flirt with whomever he wants to.
"Finnick, I assure you Cohen and I are not dating – we're cousins actually. Look, are you free tomorrow evening just to finish the project off?" I sigh. "I'll take care of Cohen – he won't interrupt us again." I promise.
"Ok... sure Rayne. Come round at seven. I just don't want any trouble." He sighs dejectedly.
"Of course, and I am sorry for his behaviour. I did ask him to apologise, but you know men and their pride..."
"Its fine, I get it. See you tomorrow."

After three of the most awkward hours in my life, finally my project with Finnick has been completed. When I told Cohen last night he wasn't happy, but I assured him that he could drop me off and pick me up if he wishes, and that this was not a social call. Reluctantly he agreed when I reminded him of our friend pact, even though it was not his decision to start with.
"Thank you Finnick, I think we have done a good job. I'll see you at school?"
"Yeah, sure Rayne, see you soon." He replies, his eyes continuously fearfully flicking back to Cohen who is brooding in his car.
