I arrive home to an empty house, with a feeling of dread and worry suffocating me and making it hard to breathe. I keep trying to call Gwen but she must have turned her phone off, as there is no response and it does not even ring. Susanne and my mum are ignoring my calls as well, meaning there is nothing left for me to do but wait. With each passing second, the anxiety gets worse, making me feel sick. I pace around the front room, frustrated with the lack of answers until I notice my moms land rover pulling up the drive.
I race out of the house, and hardly wait for the car to stop before I pounce on them. I need answers, and now. When I notice my family all looking incredibly sad, and Susanne and Charlene actually crying, my heart drops from my chest. Something awful has obviously happened.
"What? What's happened? Are you all ok?" I hurriedly ask Susanne as she slips out from the car and lands on the gravel, pushing me out the way as she wipes her tears.
"Mom? Charlene? What is going on?" I ask frustratedly, pissed by the lack of answers.
"Cohen, calm down." My mom sniffles as she rounds the car and places her arm around me, guiding me back towards the house.
"Please just tell me what is going on! Where is Gwen?" I ask desperately as I am pushed in the front door.
"Cohen... Gwen has, has gone back to Losington." She reveals dejectedly.
"W-what?" I splutter, feeling as though the wind has been knocked out of me.
"We just dropped her at the plane Cohen, it has already left. It was on standby as her departure was planned to leave on Saturday anyway, and there was a pilot so it was ready whenever." My mom explains as Charlene hugs her tightly.
"But why? Why would she just leave, and why didn't any of you tell me what was happening?" I ask angrily.
"I am sorry Cohen... she wouldn't tell me what happened but she was really upset and made us promise not to tell you." Susanne sniffles as she comes out of the kitchen eating a tub of ice cream. "Didn't you meet her at the park? Tell her you love her?" She asks whilst mom takes Charlene away to console her.
"No she never turned up!" I exclaim, kicking the cream wall and running my hands through my hair anxiously.
I cannot believe that Gwen has just left, without even saying goodbye. What the hell happened? We are supposed to be an item; you do not just leave someone you love or even like without an explanation! Something must have happened to her before she arrived at the park. Maybe she never loved me, but still if someone has hurt her, they are going to wish they were never born.
"Well she defiantly left to see you, and then she returned fifteen minutes later sobbing her heart out and demanding she go home! I tried to stop her but she wouldn't have it, so now I have lost a sister! She didn't even have her surprise leaving party!" Susanne cries.
"So she... she definitely left to meet me?" I ask and Susanne nods. "Oh god, what if... what if..."
"What if what?" Susanne snaps impatiently.
"What if she saw Raven and I?" I ponder aloud, feeling like a jerk.
"What? What were you doing with her?" My mum explodes, erupting out of the longue.
"Yeah, were you cheating on Gwen? I thought you loved her!" Susanne yells, looking like she might murder me.
"No of course not!" I exclaim angrily, maddened that they could even think that. "Raven just so happened to be there at the park, and I told her I had a date and she wished me well!" I explain.
"And?" Susanne prods accusingly.
"Well... She did hug and kiss me – on the cheek." I add in hastily when I see their outraged expressions.
"Well, did you push her away?" Charlene asks, joining in on the 'let's-accuse-Cohen-train'.
"Well, no... But only because it didn't mean anything, it was just like saying good-bye really. I only want Gwen." I stress.
"Well it might not have meant anything to you, but it obviously meant something to Gwen." Susanne sighs agitatedly whilst harshly rubbing at her eyes.
"I did warn you Cohen... Gwen needs reassurance that you only want her, and unfortunately seeing you with Raven has let her deepest insecurities come out to play." My mother wisely explains.
I curse under my breath and groan, harshly rubbing my eyes when I feel tears pricking.
"I have to go after her and let her know how much she means to me, and how much I love her. We cannot end like this... I have to go to Losington." I announce.
"Ok, well you can go this weekend as you have next week off, but you need to be back before next weekend so you can prepare for your exams." My mom dictates.
"No mom, I'm going on the next possible flight out. I will fly economy, I don't care." I stubbornly announce.
"No Cohen, you need to wait for her to cool off, and besides you have school tomorrow."
"I don't care. I have to go now, I can't wait for her feelings to cool towards me, and leave her heartbroken for days thinking I still like Raven - no way!" I retort as I push my way past them all and sprint upstairs to find my passport and throw some clothes in a bag.
I have never flown in economy class before, but for Gwen I will do anything. I have to sort this mess out.
"Cohen! I am your mother, listen to me!" She exclaims as she chases up the stairs after me.
"I know mom and I'm sorry, but I have to do this. Ow..." I exclaim as I enter into my room and stub my toe on the bed. "I just cannot lose Gwen over a misunderstanding!" I call out over my shoulder as my mum stands angrily in the doorway. "I love her too much, but I promise I will be back in time for school. Also can you please call the Queen to let her know I am coming? I'm getting Landon to drop me to the airport now." I explain as I hastily chuck some clothes and belongings into my gym bag - the first bag I see.
"Ok Cohen, I understand but I am not happy about it. Go make your peace with Gwen and I will inform her mother, but you have to keep in contact, revise and be back in time for when school starts, ok?" She stresses.
"Ok mom, thank you. I love you." I say as I hug her.
"I love you too Cohen, now go get your girl and I will see you next week."
"Thank you mom." I whisper before flying out of the door, determined to find my future and bring her home.
Four chapters and an epilogue left loves!! xoxo
