"Constructive"

Listen, we all know the asshole. That one commenter that doesn't say a single nice thing about your story, that doesn't vote, they don't show their face, except for that one comment that just says

"you spelt this word wrong"

or

"your grammar sucks lol"

Congrats, my dude. You're a genius, a real Einstein, truly the next Da Vinci of words. How could we not bask in your glory?

Okay, it's a dick move.

And if you call out the dick move, the instant response is "I'm just trying to help! It's constructive criticism! Don't be so stuck up uwu"

Do y'all even know what the fuck constructive criticism is? Constructive criticism "is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one".  In other words, it's advice that actually helps the writer better their story and fix existing problems.

Constructive criticism is NOT just yelling about grammar and spelling in the comments. You know what that is? That's being a copy editor that literally no one asked for.

Unless the writer ASKED for people to point spelling or grammar slip-ups in their A/N, then you're just giving unwanted "advice". Does a single misspelling of one word really fuck up your enjoyment of the entire story that much? Calm the fuck down.

Wattpad and any other fanfiction site are, of course, going to have a lot fo amateur writing mistakes made. You're dealing with mostly underaged and untrained writers who are just writing for a hobby. It doesn't need to be grammatically flawless, okay?

And besides, pointing out the little things is not constructive criticism on a fanfiction. Actual constructive criticism is pointing out things that are actually fucking relevant to the plot and structure of the story. It's noticing the body of the story, not the little grammatical things.

And listen, I might be in the minority here, but I have never in my life seen a Wattpad comment criticize the structure of a story. None of y'all are that fucking fancy, don't act like it.

If a story has so many typos and grammatically errors that you can't read it, then don't fucking read it. And if a story only has a couple of issues, then ignore them and just enjoy the fucking story.

You telling the writer to fix a single misspelt word doesn't help them better their story, so there's nothing fucking constructive about it.

And furthermore, I find it very ironic that the people crying wolf about these little things are often making similar grammatical mistakes in their own writings, and some times even in their own comments.

Just let writers write. If they ask for your help, then go off. If not, shut the fuck up. Didn't your mother ever teach you to not say anything if it ain't something nice?
