In the Animal Clinic, Stiles pulls back the sheet, revealing another dead chimera. Noticing Scott's expression, Theo asks, "Did you know him?"
Scott nods. "His name's Josh. He was a junior."
Stiles places the cover back over Josh and I hop onto the counter and swing my legs back and forth. "Out of curiosity, which one did it? Was it the one with the cane?"
Theo turns to me and nods, smirking. "Yeah."
Stiles looks around the room a moment. "What are we going to do with him? We can't just set the alarm and leave. That's how Tracy disappeared. Alright, someone's got to stay with him."
Theo automatically stands up. "I'll do it. It's not like I had a big Saturday night planned."
Scott's phone buzzes and he stares at it with a strange look. "What?" Stiles asks.
Scott looks up at us. "Another one. Another chimera."
Liam had texted me that he'd taken Hayden to Scott's. When we get up to his room, Scott bangs on his bathroom door. "Hayden? It's Scott. I know that you're scared, but we just...We want to help."
It's silent on Hayden's end and Scott turns to Liam. "I can hear her heart beating. She's really freaked out. What happened?"
Liam's voice is in slight panic as he says, "She was okay when we got here! I went to text you for two seconds and she locked herself in."
"Why?" Stiles asks.
Liam shakes his head. "I don't know."
"She's definitely a chimera?" Scott questions.
"She said she heard a voice saying, "Your condition improves.""
Stiles sighs. "Okay, that's unsettling."
He then walks over to the door and knocks. "Hayden. This is Stiles. Your sister works for my dad at the station. Look, just open the door, okay? You can trust us. We just need to tell you the truth Hayden. And that kind of thing is usually better face-to-face."
I place a hand on Stiles' shoulder and whisper, "Let me try." I place a hand on the door and say, "Hayden, it's Megara. We need you to come out, okay? I know you're scared and confused and that you don't want to talk. But we need you to come out."
The door clicks and it opens. Hayden appears with glowing eyes, fangs, and claws. "I believe you. I want to talk to Megara. Just her."
The boys leave and Hayden leans against the wall as she asks, "Are you like them?"
I nod. "Sort of. I'm a demigod."
"What is that?"
"Do you remember stories about Greek mythology?" Hayden nods and I continue. "Basically, I'm half-god, half-human. My dad is Poseidon, god of water. I can control water and have limited control of various other things, such as the earth and ice."
"Are you the only one?"
I chuckle. "No. There are many, many others like me. There are Greek demigods, which is what I am, and there are Roman demigods. There's a Greek demigod camp in New York and a Roman demigod camp here in California."
"How did you get here? Why are you here?"
"I'm here to check out the goings on of Beacon Hills and to help protect the town. As you can kind of see, we each have different stories that collide together."
She sighs and meets my eyes. "Megara, I'm terrified. I have no idea what's happening to me."
I place a hand on her shoulder. "Good. It's good to be scared. Scared will keep you alive. And if you don't want me to, I won't tell anyone."
