(Same episode as the previous chapter)
Megara's POV:
"The corpus callosum is not only the largest white matter structure in the brain, but also the bridge connecting all parts of the brain to each other. That ability for all parts of the brain to communicate, and to work together, help us make leaps in cognitive thinking."
I stare outside the window to see a guy hooking up a blue Jeep to a tow truck.
"Any questions, thoughts, insight, Megara?"
"Uh, yeah, I totally, completely agree." I say, glancing at Mrs. Finch.
She gives me a look. "Is there something outside that's more fascinating than the structure of the human mind?"
I shake my head. "No, I don't think so."
The mechanical whirring gets louder and Mrs. Finch says, "No. Okay. Good. Now, how many people credit the corpus callosum, uh, for giving us a sense of intuition, gut instinct, even we ourselves aren't aware..."
I grab my backpack and stand up. "I'm sorry. I'll be right back."
I hear heels clicking behind me and see Lydia seconds later. "Whatever's going on, I'm going with you."
We run out to the parking lot and I glare at the tow truck driver. "Hey! Hey! You can't tow this Jeep!"
He browses his papers. "Paperwork says I can. It's reported as abandoned."
I slap my hand on the Jeep. "And now it's not."
"Oh, this is your vehicle?"
"Does it matter?"
He scoffs. "Sounds like a no."
Instantly, as though the words are coming without a thought, I blurt, "It's mine. The Jeep is mine. Thank you. I'll move it. Once I get the keys. From my locker. After you leave."
He shakes his head. "I'm sorry, once it's on the hook..."
Lydia frowns. "Please don't say, "you're on the hook.""
"Well, I can't now."
Scott appears and starts pleading with the tow truck driver. "Oh, I, okay. Look, there's gotta be something that we can do. Sign something? Call someone?"
"Pay someone?" Lydia asks.
The man smirks. "Drop fee's a hundred and fifty. Cash."
Scott's eyes widen. "A hundred and fifty? This thing isn't even worth that much."
I hand him some money. "$30 is all I have."
Lydia pulls out her wallet and turns to Scott. "How much have you got?"
"Uh, how much have you got?"
"Just give me the money." I snap.
Scott sighs. "All I have is $50. And when I say "all", I mean all. Uh..."
I grab the money from his hand. Lydia hands me hers and I give it to the man. He smiles smugly and walks off.
Scott turns to me. "Hey. You know you don't actually have the keys to this thing, right?"
Lydia glances at me and smiles. "But now we have a Jeep."
I stare at the Jeep. Malia and Scott walk up and Malia asks, "Did somebody just lock the keys inside?"
"Break it." Lydia demands.
Scott breaks the lock and we all peek inside. The police scanner is making a sound and then stops.
