I arrive at the doors to the library. I recall thinking this is a bad idea, but I push down those feelings and walk through the doors.
"Lydia?" I call.
"Meg?" I hear a voice say. "What are you doing here?"
I turn to see Scott and frown. "What are you doing here?"
He meets my eyes. "Lydia texted me. I'm guessing she texted you too?"
I nod and he then tries calling her. We hear buzzing and I silently point to a trail of Mountain Ash covering the main floor. When we emerge from the stacks, we see Theo finishing up the Mountain Ash circle. With his hands.
"That's not possible." Scott breathes.
Theo smirks. "You're right. A werewolf shouldn't even be able to touch Mountain Ash."
"You're a chimera."
"I'm the first chimera. It's the coyote part you don't notice. It's why Malia trusted me first, even though she probably didn't know it. You found the perfect word though, Scott. Because a Chimera isn't just a monster with different parts. It can also mean something impossible to achieve. An unrealizable dream."
"And they realized you?" I retort, crossing my arms.
Theo turns his gaze to me. "They came close with me. But we can't all be perfect. We can't all be true alphas. Seems like you were right, Megara. You were the only one who believed Stiles. Why?"
"Because I've seen people like you before. I've known people like you before. You try to be the good guy, you try to make everyone believe you, but deep down inside, well, ise énas malákas kai misós."
(Translation: You are one and a half of an asshole.)
Scott attempts to rush Theo, but crashes into the Mountain Ash barrier and is bounced back. Theo winces. "Damn. I felt that." He then turns on a cell phone jammer. "No calls Scott, Meg. No Stiles, no Malia, no Lydia. You're just going to have to wait here alone for what happens next."
I narrow my eyes. "The name's Megara. Only my friends can call me Meg. And you are not my friend."
Scott asks in confusion, "What do you mean? What's next?"
Theo smirks. "The Supermoon."
He leaves and Scott pushes against the barrier in determination, but fails to cross. "Come on...You've done this before. You can do it again." He whispers.
"Scott, we're stuck." I sigh. "There's no way out."
"There's got to be."
He takes a puff from his inhaler and tries to cross the border again. This time, he's bounced back halfway across the room. I sigh, walking over to him, seeing a storage room. We exchange a look, and he climbs out a ladder in the storage room and I follow.
The entire time, he's panting for air and when we get to the top, I touch just past the edge of the roof to reveal that the Mountain Ash border is surrounding us. Scott reaches above him to find the same. He starts wheezing again, and tries to take a puff from his inhaler, but it appears not to have worked. He crushes the device in his hand revealing a purple dust. We exchange another look and say, "Wolfsbane."
We see a smaller male figure and realize it's Liam. "Theo let you in." Scott guesses.
Liam narrows his eyes. "Did you lie to me?"
"I never lied to you."
"But you won't save her!"
"I can't save her! At least, not with a bite. If you'd just think about it for a second, Liam, you would know that I'm right."
