Where I Find Peace

As they reach the church, Daryl feels more untrusting of Father Gabriel. The atmosphere of the building is on the untouched side. Rick mandates that Gabriel lets them check inside, which he allows. As they are going through, Daryl comes across many things that remind his of Beth. The hope aspect begins to weigh on him as he looks at Jesus on the cross. The blank stare carves in them makes a shiver run down Daryl's spine. Passing Carol in the priest's room, he stops her when she's flipping through the bible and he spots a sheet of notebook paper folded in one of the pages.

"Let me see that." Daryl walks over and Carol graciously hands him the parchment. Opening it up, his eyes fall and his chest tightens.

We've been at the prison so long, that being out here with just him, makes me feel small and helpless. I have hope, but, he doesn't. Pretty sure he never has. I have hope though. Hope that I'll find Maggie. Hope that I'll find some place safe for us. Hope that... well that Daryl finds something worth living for.

The page is then ripped at the bottom and tears fill Daryl's eyes, until he realizes that this is Beth's not. Beth's. Not anyone else's. Charging out of the room, Daryl passes Rick and the others. Grabbing Gabriel by the sides of his shirt, he shoves an hoists him against the side of the church. Everyone freezes and gasps at the sight.

"Where is she!"

"Who.... I don't know who you're talking about." Gabriel sounds scared and looks frightened. Daryl pushes him harder against the white wooden siding and the others step closer to be ready to hold Daryl back, but for now they wanna know the answers just as much as Daryl, but never more.

"Beth! You son of a bitch! You had her note in yer fucking bible! Where. Is. SHE!"

"I don't know! I don't know who Yer talking about. I found that page in the woods a while ago. I just picked it up. The worlds gone down hill, that doesn't mean we have to litter." Daryl drops him and is fuming. He paces in front of Gabriel.

"How mad is God gonna be when I pummel yer ass! Better yet how mad is he fer yer sin! You liar."

"I ask God to forgive my sins. That's between me and him. As for you, you can only hope for forgiveness." Gabriel stays close to the building and Daryl just goes off and fumes some more. Rick and the group stare at Gabriel, knowing that he is in some position of being wrong. Gabriel doesn't move for a few minutes until everyone, besides Carol and Daryl are inside. Trudging off, Carol follows Daryl, who really just wants to be alone. He rempages through the woods and shortly comes to a road. Beside the road is a black car and he begins to quickly observe it. No white cross. Opening up the back he finds a battary jumper and a few jugs.

"Need to keep this as a get away car. Never know." He pulls the jugs out of the trunk and they head toward a small waterfall that connects to the stream between the church and the river.

"You've been on edge lately." Carol screws the cap back on her jug and gives Daryl a scowling look.

"Not like it matters."

"If you want us to follow you, you have to lead with a kinder heart." Carol steps closer and Daryl can't stand the closeness so he steps away from her.

"How can I be kinder when that priest knows where Beth is and is hiding behind the Almighty?"

"You just need to try and find a way around the barriers. Rick..."

"Rick doesn't understand. He has his family. Sasha has hers. Everyone has someone, but me. Is it so terrible to ask that I find her?" Carol looks down and becomes forlorn.
