What We Accomplish

Standing in the church, waiting for Rick to speak, Beth stands on one side with Judith and Daryl on the other by Carol. It took a lot for him not to go over there and pull her into his body, claiming it for the group to see. And for her, it was the same. Watching her with his eyes, Carol finds him looking hungry and Beth the meal.

"We had a great loss today. We lost our friend Bob. We lost Father Gabriel. But we are still strong here. We are still tied together. We're going to get to D.C. We're gonna make a cure. And we're gonna survive. That's what this group does, it's why it's always done. And now will be no different." Rick looks amongst the sobs and frowns of his forlorn friends. "With great loss, comes great fortune and hope though. We got one of our own back. And I've been informed we're going to grow in size. Maggie."

Everyone looks at Maggie as she steps up on the step and over looks them.

"Everyone...Glenn and I are pregnant." Every smiles and says congratulations. Daryl watches Beth's face. She seems half happy and half sad. He knows she probably thinking about her father not being here to see it, and he's right, she is thinking if Hershel.

"With such great news, comes responsibility. We need to get moving quickly before the baby comes. So, we're gonna pack in that small bus out back and hope we can get far enough to either find a sustainable shelter or more vehicles and resources. I want everyone on the bus in fifteen minutes." Rick dismisses everyone and Daryl slinks toward the back of the church and into the office. Packing his black backpack, he grabs all he can.

"Daryl...." Beth comes in and looks at him, still holding Judith.

"Yeah?"

"Aren't you nervous? Ya know... about leaving Georgia for the first time." Daryl looks down at the bag on the table and then back at Beth who seems small and sorrowful.

"Nah, jus what we have ya do....are you?" He sets his stuff down when he notices her breaking at the seams.

"My life's here. My...my dad. The farm. Everything I've ever known. All the great things that have happened to me... happened here." She grabs his hand with her free one as Judith clings to her other hip. Setting her on the couch and kneeling in front of her, Daryl feels his heart racing. He hasn't had to comfort someone so much, but he's glad it's Beth.

"It is scary. And sad. I'm leaving Merle here, but Beth... They're always in our hearts. Hershel. Merle. There with us. In here." Taking her hand he places both of their hands on her chest above her heart. "We'll always have Georgia... We'll always have each other."

Leaning forward, he kisses her lips and then he kisses Judith on the head. Looking at her, she still has a few tears in her eyes, but thy are diminishing. Taking her free hand, she holds the back of his neck and presses her forehead to his.

"I can't do this without you..."

"You'll never have too. I got you...always." It was so sweet a moment that no memory of hers would ever forget any detail of this day. Standing up, they exchange quick glances and then go back to getting ready to leave. After changing out of Daryl's clothes, Beth puts on new skinny jeans, boots they found, and once again a yellow tee shirt that was blood free... for now. She looked like the old Beth, but stronger and wiser.

Getting on the bus, everyone has to sit with someone due to the size. Abraham drives because he feels obligated too. Rick and Michone sit together, Tyreese and Sasha, Maggie and Glenn, Rosita and Tara, Eugene in his own seat with luggage, Carl and Beth with Judy, and Daryl and Carol. it worked out perfectly with only eight seats in the whole bus. The last one is filled with more luggage and water.
