Another Action
She wakes up by the fire barrel, with his vest over her as a blanket. She doesn't even remember going to sleep out here and she certainly doesn't remember Daryl giving her his vest. Looking around as she sits up, she finds Daryl sitting near the ladder holding Judith as she eats crackers. Getting up, she walks over and the child bounces in Daryl's arms and calls for her.
"Ma-mee!" Going to her, Daryl graciously hands Beth the child and stands to look down at them. Beth sways back and forth, kissing the baby girl and blowing raspberries on her little pink exposed belly.
"Morning." Daryl kisses her cheek and then the baby. He can't help but smile at them.
"Here's yer vest. Thanks for letting me use it." He shakes his head at her and has a hand waving his palm at her.
"Nah, you keep it for now." Her jaw drops. Was this sort of like when jocks gave their cheerleader girlfriends their varsity jackets? Was he really claiming her? She hollds it in her arms, under Judith and stands on her tippy toes, kissing him chastely on the cheek. A sudden gunshot comes from the ground and they look that way, as Maggie, Glenn, and Tara scramble out of the tent.
"What was that?" Glenn flies over to the edge with them and they gaze down and over toward the super market.
"Look! It's them! They're coming out!" Tara calls. One by one they find their friends coming out. The only ones they don't find are Rick, Abraham, and Rosita. "I'm gonna start the fire!"
As everyone scrambles to pack up and take care of things, Beth feels kind of worried about the whole thing. Their eyes catch a herd of walkers heading toward their friends. Daryl grabs his crossbow and starts down the ladder.
"Wait! Where are you going?" Beth rushes to him, with Judith in her baby carrier.
"I have to go help them."
"I'm coming with you!"
"No. Yer staying here."
"Daryl. We're not arguing about this now. I'm immune. I can help." Giving her a final huff he starts climbing down and Beth starts climbing down the ladder with Daryl. When they get to the ground, they start running, forgetting the bikes, cause they'll just work against them.
"If I tell you to run. You run. I won't have you or Judith getting hurt. We stay close to the buildings." Daryl loads his bow and Beth grabs her knife, but readies her gun. As they run closer to the herd, they start getting pinched away from the group. There are more and more walkers coming from the wood work and Daryl turns and just grabs Beth's hand and pulls her toward a dirt ally way. Running faster and faster, Beth and Daryl weave in and out of allies and houses. There are herds on all sides, but forward. As they end up farther and farther away from the group and the buildings, they find themselves back in a wooded area, the herd never dwindling in size, but growing.
Without any warning, Daryl tugs Beth toward a suspended bridge. He pulls her up to the edge. Turning her around, he grabs Judith, and pulls his crossbow over his shoulder. The water below in rushing fast and its a 20 ft drop to it. Looking at her quickly, and then back at the herd that is right at their heels, he grabs Beth and holds Judith tight as he plunges them to the water below.
They hit clean and resurface. He keeps Judith's head above water as he treds toward the shore line, still holding onto Beth. He never leaves go of either of them. When he looks back the Walkers are turned back to the town and Daryl starts swimming to the bank. The stream starts to shallow and slow down and they trudge to the bushes by the bank. We don't speak until we're out of the first few trees and are safely away from walkers. Looking at Daryl and Judith, Beth can't stand the wet baby.
