Rumors Kill

Waking up the next day, Daryl immediately felt a pang of distrust in the air. With Beth on top of him still and Judith sound a sleep, he lays in the small bedding trying to piece together what his mind was actually thinking when he climbed into bed with Beth. Sure, they hadn't done anything, but it probably looks like they had, what with his pants un buttoned, boxers showing and only really being able to see Beth's camisole- anyone passing by could probably assume that they had sex last night. Yet that isn't the case. He hadn't slept with her like that. He had only climbed into her bed to comfort her. She asked him to. Begged him maybe? It's all very hard considering who's perspective looks at it.

She stirs on top of him and soon opens her eyes, a small smile crossing her face. Those eyes. Even in the morning they are so captivating to him. Like two sapphire diamonds sparkling in the glow of the looming sun. He returns the favor and leaning forward she kisses his cheek. She pauses before retreating. Looking deep in his eyes, she sees something she hasn't really seen before. Raw, genuine emotion. Right as she's about to kiss his lips, Judith wakes up and is standing in the crib staring at them making gurgling noises.

"She's probably hungry. I better go feed her." She sits up, kind of embarrassed and puts on her t-shirt before her boots and grabbing Judith. Looking over at her, he can't deny her beauty. He too gets up, buttons his pants and zips them all the way. Walking over to her, he kisses Judith's head and then leans down and surprises Beth with a kiss on her lips. Stepping back he looks at her with a broad smile before leaving the room to find his vest and his shirt. Standing there for a few minutes, she can't believe he really just did that. Sure, she loved it and wants more, but to have him do it in such an un-Daryl-like fashion was shocking, yet enjoyable.

Walking downstairs with Judith, she goes over to the food supplie and finds a small bag of dried apricots. The tiny girl had become over elated with dried fruit, since they found some. Taking the bag out and placing Judith in the high chair, Beth dumps about ten pieces onto the girl's tray and takes a few for herself. She'd kill for a real piece of fruit. It used to be her favorite snack after school, and now she wishes she never took it for granted. To find fruit in this life, that isn't dried or rotting is like finding a unicorn. As she sits and laughs at the bubbling baby, Carol and Tara come in, Carol gives her smizing eyes as if she can read Beth's brain.

"Well good morning sunshine." Carol goes over to Judith and kisses her cheeks. Feeding her an apricot, Judith looks up at the older woman and smiles as she takes it. "Thanks sugar. So Beth, how'd you sleep last night?"

"Okay... I had a nightmare, but Daryl came and comforted me." There's no shame in that... was there? "Sorry, I thought you were gonna wake me and Daryl up to take watch?"

"Well you two just looked so peaceful, I didn't want to intrude." Carol almost snaps at her. Beth sits up straight. She's tired of people assuming things about her. About making her a child or making her out to be a harlot.

"What's that supposed to me?" Her defensive tone carries in the house. Tara and Judith stop eating and both just stare at the two women, unknown to them that the rest of the group out on the lawn could hear what was exactly being said.

"Don't play coy with me girl. I know what you and Dixon did last night. You can't hide what I saw." Carol white knuckles the counter. Everyone who is listening looks around at one another- some oblivious to any kind of rumor and others just irritated at the arguement. Daryl comes around the back of the house from checking his snares when he hears the ruckus and eyes are on him like daggers.

"We did NOTHIN'!" Beth stands up, slamming her hands flat on the counter. Tara grabs the baby and back up slowly before exiting the building.

"Shit's gonna go down in there." Tara nervously says as she rushes down the steps and hands Rick Judith. Daryl can't stand the thought of a fight and barges in.

"I know what happened between you two, so stop lying Beth."

"THERE'S NOTHIN' BETWEEN US CAROL!"

"Carol, we didn't do anything." Daryl says and Beth flips out.

"Jesus Christ, this is perfect. You would be here!" Grabbing her stuff, she barges passed Daryl and out the door. Everyone is following her with their gaze and soon Daryl errupts from the house.

"Now hold on just a damn minute!" He screams as he chases down Beth and the others just watch. He grabs her arm and she turns with a glowering look.

"WHAT! What do you want from me?!"

"You bes' not be snapping at me girl!" Daryl growls and points a finger at her.

"Or what! Be real Daryl! It was never gonna work with us! Between Carol and them! And us! IT'S a BIG MESS!"

Daryl releases her arm. It hurts him to hear her say that. To feel that way about them, but he gets it.

"So that's it huh? I risk everythin'. Everythin'! To save yer ass multiple times! And this is how it's gonna end? Over a rumor! An ACCUSATION!"

"Let me give you the opportunity to not have to save me any more." Giving the group one last look, she turns and leaves down the road. He can't bare it. Running after her, he grabs her hand and pleads.

"Please. Please! Beth, don't leave! Beth." He drags himself at her feet, it's obvious in his voice that he's crying and the others just feel sorry for him. When Beth doesn't stop, or turn around to even give him a look, he drops to the ground and just loses it. She continues walking and not one person can truly understand what went on, but they all feel the pain. Maggie, realizing what's happening shoves past Glenn and races after Beth, soon followed by Glenn himself, Michone, and Tara. Daryl, crying and lamenting, just stays on the ground unable to fathom the lose.

Carol steps from the house and can't really understand her actions. Was she that jealous? Was she that upset that Beth was happy with a guy she may have liked? Why would she push so hard and cause a split in the group. Seeing Daryl sitting on the ground, hurt and broken, breaks her own heart. It was her fault. She had to be that person. Everyone looks at her with disgust and anger.

"Are we going to D.C or..."Abraham says and Eugene clears his throat and they look at him.

"About that...um... I think now is better time than any to, uh, come forward." They all look at him and can only question what the mulleted man means. "There's no point in goin' to D.C..."

"What do you mean? WE have to cure people. We're going!" Abraham says with his firery hair glistening in the soft morning light.

"Here's the thing... when I met you in Dallas... I uh... I lied about the cure. I needed protection...I still am smart though. I'm just not a scientist..." Abraham and the group freezes. Becoming angry and over heated, Abraham says nothing, but walks up to Abraham and punches him square in the face, sending blood spattering from Eugene's nose and leaving him on the ground. The group has to pull Abraham off, before he pummels Eugene to nothing.

"FUCKING GOD DAMN LIAR!" He yells repeatedly as he tries to break free of Tyreeses grasp.

"Is..is he dead?" Rosita slowly steps closer as Carl asks, slightly scared about what went on.

"...Yes." Rosita pulls away after checking his pulse. "You killed him Abraham."

Everyone looks at him with shocked and scared eyes. Abraham now shakes his head in disaggreance. He can't. He couldn't have. Could he?

Yes.
