Finding the Words

As Glenn drives, Maggie sits in the front, while Beth, Judith and Daryl try to sleep in the back. She still hasn't said anything to Daryl, but Beth has finally let her anger run it's course. She just wishes she wouldn't have snapped. Holding Judith, her head starts to bob up and down, but doesn't want to sleep.

Looking over at her, Daryl feels his heart pang with not only guilt, but remorse. He should have fought harder for her. Should have been a man, instead of a blubbering idiot. What was he supposed to do? Just not intervene? Tapping her on the shoulder after her head bobs once more, she looks at him with hollow eyes.

"Give 'er here. Ya need ta sleep." He whispers, which Maggie and Glenn don't catch anyway, cause they're so submersed in the road and the recent down pour that's making driving almost impossible.

"You need to sleep..." She squeaks out, but he scoots closer and starts taking Judith from her.

"Nah, you need it more." He doesn't scoot away from her after taking Judith. And soon, she naturally lays her head on his shoulder and falls asleep. Looking at her out of the corner of his eye, he can't stop smiling. Sure, they may not be together, but he still has her in his life. He hopes he always will.

When the morning sun rises, Beth finds the cars have stopped and Daryl has his arms wrapped, not only Judith, but also her. She doesn't know if she should jerk him off of her or gently slide away. Maggie and Glenn are out by a small fire with some others from the group, cooking whatever they caught and talking. As she decides to gently slide out from underneath Daryl, he awakes.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you Mr. Dixon." She snakily hisses at him, but feels it unjustly.

"Beth, fore ya flip out and leave or bark at me...I jus'...huh...I want...grrr."

"You have my attention Mr. Dixon." She faces him in the seat and he hands her Judith.

"Forget it." He growls as he tries to leave. Leaning up front, Beth hits the automatic lock button on the drivers door, locking them both in.

"No. You wanna say something. Say it."

"Why ya gotta do this?"

"Do what?" She bites.

"Act so high an mighty. Then like a child. Then God knows what else!"

"Jus keep it coming." She eggs him on and he takes the bait.

"Like yer some God Damn Princess!"

"Tell me how you really feel!" She get in his face, the only thing separating them is Judith. Without words, Daryl angrily pulls Beth's face to his and he smashes their lips together, shoving his tongue in her mouth and leaving her gapping and their mouths red when he pulls back abruptly. Looking at him, he seems more than satisfied. She doesn't know what else to do, but slap him hard across the face. Pressing the button on the console she unlocks the car and storms from it, with Judy still half asleep.

"Morning Beth." Rick says, as Beth plops Judith in his hands. She storms off down a small path to a creek bed. Getting down there she passes the bed by a tree and finds herself taking her anger out by punching the tree as hard as she can. Pulling her hand back, the pain resonates deep in her bones and just growls in anger.

Exiting the car, Daryl brushes his face quickly trying to subdue the stinging in his cheek, as he lumbers over to the fire.

"Early start at fighting?" Rick asks with a chuckle.

"Girl slapped me."

"What'd you do?"

"...May have forcefully kissed her." Rick nods his head and laughs.
