Unraveling

In the morning, Daryl watches Beth's chest closely. Before getting up to check on the kids, he kisses her forehead, which is still very warm. Going out to the living room Paul comes running up to him and Daryl picks him up.

"Hey Buddy! You hungry?"

"Yeah."

"Is Judy up?"

"Nope!" Setting him on the counter, Daryl goes to the cabinet and grabs some non-stale cereal and some powdered milk. Mixing the milk with water, he pours it in the bowl over the cereal.

"Here ya go. I'm gonna put it at the table and go get Judy." He sets Paul in the chair at the table and goes back to the living room and heads up the spiral stairs. Going into the kids room, Daryl walks in and finds Judy standing in her crib and begins bouncing up and down. "Hi baby! Cutie Judy!"

"Daddy!! Daddy!" She puts her hands up and when Daryl gets closer she grabs onto his shirt and starts climbing out of the cub and into his arms.

"Okay...feisty...haha." Holding her close, he kisses her cheeks and she giggles. "Hungry?"

"Mommy??"

"Mommy's sick baby. But you can see her later."

He takes her down stairs and on the way passes Monty's room, where he stops and hears him coughing and hacking. Daryl only thinking rationally heads down stairs with Judith and gets her some food. Going to the medicine cabinet, he grabs children vitamins and gives one to both Paul and Judy. Going back to Beth, she's hunkered over a trash can being sick. He goes to her and rubs her back.

"Daryl, you really shouldn't be in here...you could get sick too."

"Monty has it." Looking at Daryl with wide eyes she turns away and sits against the bed.

"The kids?"

"Nah, they're fine. I'm gonna run to the town and see if there's a pharmacy for something."

"Keep the kids in their room...I don't want them near Monty or me..."

"I'm taking them with me." She gives me an angered looks and I help her to the bed.

"Daryl, you can't take a four year old and a baby into a walker filled town."

"I have too. The dogs are getting bigger. I'll take no and leave him in the car with them under a blanket."

"I don't like this plan." She coughs again, covering it with her arm.

"Well, we don't really have a choice. I'll be back as soon as possible." He goes to kiss her but she turns away and covers up under the blankets. As if that didn't hurt him him at all, he goes and grabs the kids and puts them in the truck. Calling Bo, he opens the truck door, and the dog leaps inside.

He drives to the small town of Waterford and right on Main Street there's the Waterford Pharmacy-a decrepit brick building that's still locked up tight. He pulls into a space by the park and turns to Paul and Judith in the back.

"You don't go anywhere, you hear? I'm leaving Bo in the car. Stay down under the blanket and stay quiet. Don't move until I come back okay?" They nod to him and Daryl leaves, taking the keys and locking the car, with just the smallest crack in the two front windows.

Going up to the back door, he checks it. Locked. Going around to the front he finds the door is also locked, but kicking over the welcome mat, finds the key. He knocks on the window, but nothing comes from the darkness. Unlocking the door, he goes in and shut the door behind him. The place is packed with foods, toys, knick-knacks and other medical supplies. Going to the back he jumps the counter and starts looking through the drugs. As he rifles through some lower containers, something touches his foot. Looking down he finds a walker trying to bite his ankles. Taking his knife he doesn't hesitate to stab him in her the head. Kicking her off, he continues to grab every possible drug and on the way out he grabs more vitamins for the kids.

As he comes back to the truck, he keeps the key in his pocket and heads to the truck, where four walkers are attacking it, Bo growling in the front seat and kids crying in the back. Taking his bow he takes out the first one and then a second. As he's about to shoot again a walker comes at his back and he shakes it off, turning and stabbing it in the head. Going after the last two, he grabs his bolts from the others and forces one into the ones head and finally stabs the last.

Unlocking the door he opens it up and Bo settles down. Going to the back seat, he throws up the blanket and finds Paul holding Judith close and both crying.

"It's okay... I'm here. I got ya. Daddy's here." He pulls them into a tight hug, but it's cut short when Bo starts growling and bolts from the truck. "Bo!"

Turning around he shoves the kids back in and shuts the door. Watching the dog, Bo runs towards a walker and jumps up, biting it's neck and leaving it's head detached from the body, the head still moving.

"Bo!" Daryl calls and the dog comes back with some walker blood on his white speckled chest. "Good boy Bo. Good boy."

They drive home and pull into the drive. He takes the kids to the dog kennels where he watches them play with Honey, while he bathes Bo. Suddenly from the house, he hears a scream and then a gunshot.

"Stay here!" He races from the garage, shutting the door behind him. Grabbing his crossbow from the truck, he goes in through the front door and keeps his now up. Walking in he sees blood on the floor heading up the stairs. Going up, it's clear, besides a puddle of blood at the landing. Heading back down stairs, Daryl goes through the kitchen where more blood is on the floor. Following the trail, he opens the bathroom door, nothing. As he keeps searching, he finds the door to the garage partway open and a blood trail leading inside. Entering he finds Monty dead at the top of the set of cement stairs where you can go to the basement and at the bottom is Beth holding her gun and covered in blood crying.

"Beth..." she looks up at him with wide eyes and tears streaming down her face.

"He...he turned...he chased me...I...I." Rushing down the steps to her, Daryl looks her over.

"Shhhh, it's okay. It's okay. We're you bit?"

She shakes her head no and just looks frightened as hell. Pulling her close, Daryl look back up at Monty, who just dangles over the first step and blood pours down the steps to them.

"Baby? Kids???" She begins to panic.

"In the garage safe. We gotta get you cleaned up and this house. Come on." Helping her to her feet, Daryl helps her up the steps and into the house. He carries her to the bathroom and cleans her up. "I need you to go rest. I'll take care of the house an the kids.

"Daryl..." She says through tear filled eyes. "I'm sorry..."

"No, Baby. It's not yer fault. Hey, look at me." She looks up and him and kisses her lips. "I love you. I love you, and we're all gonna be okay."

"I love you Daryl..." She lays down in the bed and he covers her up. He kisses her one last time before starting to clean up the house. It doesn't take long before he drags Monty out and starts digging the hole. He gets him in and starts laying the dirt over him. Patting the dirt down, he puts a cross in the ground and says a quick prayer.

Heading back to the garage, he feeds the dogs and Tibbs before grabbing the kids and taking them inside.

"Hungry?"

"Where's Mommy?" Paul asks as Daryl starts making a sandwich for them.

"Sleeping. She's still not feeling well, Bud."

"Grandpa?" Paul looks at him with big eyes.

Getting on his knees he places one hand on Paul's back and one on his stomach.

"He uh...he's with yer real mom and dad. He's in a better place." Paul starts crying softly and Daryl just pulls him close to his body and runs his hand through the boys blonde hair. "Im sorry Buddy...I'm sorry."
