A System

The food has turned her stomach upside down. Rushing toward the nearest bathroom, she throws open the first stall door and spews all over, just barely making it in the toilet. After she gets done, she feels her vision blur and everything go hazy. Laying on the ground, the last thing she sees is a pair of feet walking in and crouching down.

Waking up her hearts racing. She has restraints on her wrists and ankles. looking around she notices she's in a dimly kit room with no windows. The air smells stale and it's blood turning silent.

"How are we feeling Beth?" Klein an Sanderson appear in Beth's view and to her right on another bed is a woman died down just like Beth. She is around her 30's and dark skinned. She seems more estranged than Beth is and Klein seems calm as ever.

"What the hell are you doing?" The woman next to Beth screams.

"Melinda, you best calm down. We're not on you yet."

"Fuck you! This shit is wrong! She's a young girl!" Sanderson comes over and tightens the restraints on Melinda.

"You need to be compliant, Mel."

"I'm yer girlfriend! How could you do this? Sarah! How can you do this!!?" The officer turns around and looks at the aggravated and scared woman.

"It's yer sacrifice you signed up to make. You owe us!" Sarah Sanderson looks across and Beth tries not to catch her eyes.

"Yer a monster! Yer worse than the dead! You'll burn for this!"

"It's better than being weak." Sarah growls in her throat an Beth can feel the tension between everyone. Melinda lets a tear roll down her face.

"You are the weak. You who force the hands of others and make others spill their blood for yer twisted experiments." Coming toward Beth, Sarah unbuckles the restraints and Beth gets up.

"Yer gonna need to help me." Sarah looks deep in her eyes and Beth can tell that Sanderson used to be a good person. Used to be the person to risk everything and now, now she was the person who'd destroy anything to find answers.

"Sanderson, we have no time for this new recruit to help." Klein interrupts. Jolting around to look at him, she gives him dagger eyes.

"You have no choice Doctor. She has no choice. Hold her down by her shoulders." Beth slowly walks over to the head of the bed and looks down at Melinda, who has tears in her eyes. Can Beth really condemn this woman? Can she be the one who doesn't fight. She stops and turns around. "Do it!"

"Aren't you supposed to be the greater good? To help and protect? You can't do this." Beth says as she takes a step I front if Melinda's bed to hide her face from her ex-lover.

"In here, there is no greater good. Yer part of a system. And you'll learn that." Beth grits her teeth and Sarah pauses and then slashes her gun across Beth's already cut open cheek, hurting Beth even more and cause blood to spool down her face. Knocking Beth to the side of the room, Sarah turns back and steps toward Melinda, who is struggling against the restraints. Klein comes over and they extract a lot of Melinda's blood and then leave. Beth slowly gets up and goes over to Melinda and unties her.

The door opens back up and Beth takes a scalpel in her hand and hides behind a curtain. When Another woman officer walks in, Melinda attacks her, causing the woman to drop her gun. Beth picks it up and they all freeze.

"Go ahead. Shoot me. I fucking have been waiting for it. I don't wanna live any more. Not in this world." She seems too calm and Beth goes to lower the gun, when the woman takes out a knife and slits Melinda's throat and Beth Has no choice but to shoot the officer in the head.
