You couldn't hold your brother tight enough.

"Honestly," Jungkook said, tapping your arms. "I'm fine. Stop strangling me."

"I thought I lost you," you said, trying not to cry again.

Jungkook pried your fingers from around his neck and held your hands proudly. "I would have found a way to survive. I wouldn't have let Namjoon win."

A pang of guilt hit your chest, thinking of the way Namjoon looked as you left with Hoseok. You tried to push it aside. You didn't want to care. You wanted to say that he deserved it. But there was still so much of the old Namjoon in Captain Kim. If you had seen it sooner...

You turned to Hoseok, who was passionately embracing the comrades he saved from prison. He patted their shoulders and smiled warmly, a stark contrast to the sword he put at your throat.

Did he come to save you? Or only them?

"I say this is a cause for a massive celebration!" Hoseok said, turning away from his men and walking towards Jimin. He didn't acknowledge you.

Jimin groaned. "You want me to prepare by myself?"

"Where's Jin?" you asked.

"Out getting supplies," Jimin returned. "He should be back tomorrow."

You nodded, saying nothing else. You could have revealed what you knew, but there was something holding you back. There were too many missing pieces, and you weren't ready to give information away so easily as you had before.

And maybe... Jin could confirm whether or not Namjoon was okay.

You rubbed the raw skin on your collarbone.

If there's a single cut on her body, Jung, I'll hear of it. And I'll rip the skin off your body piece by piece.

You watched Hoseok as he gave instructions to Jimin, smiling and waving his arms in excitement. He was back to his old self, almost, despite the extra darkness around his eyes. But as he teased Jimin, it was like nothing had changed since the first time you met him. As if Taehyung hadn't been killed. As if you hadn't betrayed Hoseok. As if he hadn't put a sword to your throat.

Would he have slit it?

Back off, Captain, or I slit her open right in front of you. Just like you did to my sister.

How deep was Hoseok's need for revenge?

You watched him for an answer, but his victorious face held none.

You suddenly felt uncomfortable.

"I'll help you, Jimin," you said. "It's the least I can do."

Hoseok looked at you for the first time since you had returned, his lips and eyes flat.

Did he still hate you for betraying him?

You turned to Jungkook and embraced him once more. "I'll be right back."

He grunted. "I'm not going anywhere. Stop suffocating me."

You pulled back, nodding. He must have been hungry after so many days in prison. That's why he wasn't being himself.

Avoiding Hoseok's gaze, you followed Jimin into the kitchen. You helped him set up for the evening, collecting bottles of alcohol and prepping food. Jimin was a better cook than you had given him credit for, and he was a decent teacher as well. He tasked you with the stew as he prepared some potatoes.

"Keep stirring," he said over his shoulder, "don't let it stick to the bottom."

You obeyed, the smell of the deer and rice together becoming more and more familiar.
