"Why did you do it?" Hoseok whispered in your ear.
He hadn't said a word until you were halfway to camp. You had been too lost in muddled emotions to bother starting any type of conversation yourself.
"I could ask you the same question," you replied. "You knew he'd be there."
"I had a hunch."
"And you were practically foaming at the mouth when you were right. You're satisfied? Putting my life on the line like that?"
"I told you to trust me. And if you're going to call me Master, I'd prefer you did it because you mean it, not simply to piss Captain Kim off. Although, I admit, that was the highlight of my night."
His elbows brushed across your sides as he pulled on the horse reins, taking you further into the forest. The shadows were always endless, but late past midnight, they were even more expansive. The moon disappeared completely, leaving you with only darkness, and the sounds of the horse's hooves and Hoseok's gentle breath.
You hated the sound of Master. You hated the idea of submitting to anyone. If you had chosen that type of lifestyle, you and Jungkook wouldn't still be alive. But Hoseok risked himself for you by bringing you into the Rebellion. He took care of you more than anyone; feeding you, training you, encouraging you, and even forgiving you.
You swallowed.
Namjoon did all the same things when you were younger... and look where you ended up.
"I trust your instruction," you admitted. "But I don't trust your kindness."
"I don't want you to trust my kindness. I want you to trust me with your life. I want you alive, Y/N. Do you not believe that?"
You didn't answer.
Hoseok cleared his throat. "Also, there's another matter."
You turned your ear towards him to indicate that you were listening.
"If Yoongi finds out that there are women on the outside working for me, he'll pull my mission," he said. "I need you to keep this to yourself. This is my order as your Master."
"Am I supposed to obey without asking questions?"
He chuckled. "You can ask, but I can't guarantee an answer."
"There were women in the Rebellion at one point, weren't there? So why is Yoongi against it now?"
He hesitated. "There was trouble a few years back. Yoongi doesn't want history to repeat itself. But that's where we don't see eye to eye. Yoongi wants to run from it. I want to face it head-on."
"Didn't you say you were the reason for the rule?"
He gave a long sigh. "I was."
The arrogant air around him vanished, replaced by something heavy and melancholy. You couldn't bring yourself to ask any more questions as you trotted further through the forest towards camp.
By the time you were approaching camp, both you and the horse were drowsy. You had leaned against Hoseok for most of the ride back, his shoulder supporting you the entire way. He hadn't given you a single snarky remark about it, at least.
He waited for that until after you got back to the camp.
"Alright, let's take off your clothes and go to bed," he said, sliding off the horse first.
You nearly fell off the horse. "Excuse me?"
He chuckled, helping you down. "Your clothes are wet and need to be dried, and you're falling asleep. So change and return them to Jimin to get them properly dried. I have a spare robe for you. Come on."
