Chapter 6
Missing Pieces
Daniel
Coincidence and fate might be something. But meeting her is interesting. I feel jumpy and excited about everything. I never felt like this. I put a blue tie on with my black suit, matching with new series of Gucci shoes and a watch. To top it best, I spray my exotic wine perfume and run my hair in a swift with my fingers. When I am done, I head out. Somehow I am excited about asking her to join me at the family breakfast now so we could exchange names and numbers. I mean I could know about her.
My disappointment doesn't hide when I find only my mother instructing her assistant.
"Where is she?" I ask.
"Who, dear?" Mom starts to play. And it fucking irritates me. For a woman who has been pulled and pushed in the ugly and moronic fight among males in the family, hurt and cried over it, she still does not seem to collect any kindness from my side. Just when I lean at her for a mother, her avatar to protect her sons from 'unknown darkness' - only in the knowledge of her kick in, making the closing in mother-son bond slowly walk miles apart.
"She." I simply say.
"Well, she left in a hurry." Mom popped her neck and smiled at me.
I sigh.
"Did you say anything to her?" I almost blame her but she seems to ignore my tone and continue smiling brightly as the sun.
" Not necessarily much. But about breakfast. She saw the door herself next."
I don't know how I should respond to this but I know it wasn't all. The next thing that stings me is that I don't even know her name. Or anything of any sort even though the conversation last night. I mean if she wasn't drunk, she would have opened up.
I look at my mother, not sure whether to ask her about her. Damn, if I waited when she was to introduce herself to Mom.
I simply walk past her to attend the upcoming utterly boring and dramatic breakfast. But I stop and shit it out. Whole.
" Did she say anything before leaving?"
Fuck. Mom has that charming smile on her face which means 'Son funny you should ask when I would tag you to someone like her.'
"Yes, she did."
"Oh, wow, what?" I escalate. So fucking fast.
"That she was in a hurry. And so she was sorry about it, Danny."
I stare at her for a long second expecting more but there wasn't any to my dismay. Or probably, I am being snatched of my right to information like always. I give her a look before heading out. As expected, a limousine is waiting right out of the door for us. The day is quite humid but clear. The sound of waves moving fades little by little as we head to the city. The idea of stepping into Coaster Manner has always been a grim thing for me but today it's so fucking extraordinary making it grimmest. Of course, Arnold Coaster would be there. And so will Derek Coaster too. Somebody slap me out of my agony.
