Rewrite the Stars (Normani/You)

Y/N's POV

I was at a party that I was invited to. I was waiting for Normani to show up as I had invited her. I really like Normani, but it's strange in our society for two people with different skin colours to be seen together. I think it's stupid that people feel like this, but unfortunately, this is the world we live in. When I saw her walk in, a smile made its way to my face and I couldn't help but admire her beauty. She was wearing a long white dress that fit her body perfectly. I walked up to her with a smile on my face.

" Hey, beautiful." I said to her and she blushed a little. She looked around to see if anyone heard what I said. I sighed to myself at the thought of her being worried about me complimenting her. I understand why she would be concerned because she gets judged because of her skin colour. She's seen as less than me because of it and I hate it.

" Thank you for inviting me." She said and I nodded with a smile.

" Of course. Would you like to dance with me?" I asked her and she shook her head with a sigh.

" You know we can't." She said to me and I sighed. She walked away and I followed after her. She sat down on a chair and I sat beside her. I decided to let it go for now and just talk to her.

After a while of talking, I decided to try to convince her to dance with me. I know that she's a great dancer.

" Please dance with me. Just one dance. That's all I ask." I said and heard her sigh. She contemplated the idea for a minute and then nodded her head slowly. I smiled and held out my hand for her to grab. I led her towards the dance floor and put my hands around her waist. She put hers on my shoulders and we danced along to the song that was playing. We were having so much fun until a man came up to us with a disgusted look.

" Why are you dancing with her, Y/N?" He asked me and I glared at him. I come from a wealthy family so unfortunately, many people know who I am.

" Because I want to. Now, if you'll excuse us." I said to him and tried to pull Normani away, but the man stopped us when he threw his drink on Normani's dress. Normani looked down in embarrassment and I immediately got angry.

" What's your problem?" I yelled and grabbed him by the collar and pushed him against the wall.

" You shouldn't be dancing with someone like her." He said motioning towards Normani. I pushed him towards the wall harder and looked back at Normani. Everyone was staring at her and she had tears in her eyes. She ran out of the party and I let the man go after slamming him against the wall hard.

" Don't ever talk about her like that again." I said to him and ran after Normani. I caught her outside, walking away quickly.

" Normani." I called out running after her, but she kept walking.

" Normani, stop. Please." I said, grabbing her arm gently to turn her around. When she turned around, I could see the tears on her face and I sighed.

" I'm so sorry that he did that to you. You don't deserve that." I said to her and she sighed.

" I'm used to it. This is how we get treated." She said to me and I shook my head at her.

" You shouldn't have to be used to that behaviour. Just because you have a different skin colour, doesn't mean you deserve to be treated any less than someone else." I said to her and she shrugged.

" Thank you for the invite, but I should go home." She said and went to turn around, but I stopped her again.

" Please don't go." I said to her and she frowned.

" I know why you invited me tonight." She said to me and I sighed to myself.

" I know you do. I don't hide how I feel about you, Normani. I know you feel something for me too." I said to her and she nodded her head in agreement, causing me to smile widely.

" I do, but we could never be together." She said to me and I frowned.

" Why not Normani? You claim that we can't be together, but you're here in my heart so who could stop me if I decide that you're my destiny? What if we rewrite our destinies and what everyone thinks we should be? It's not up to anyone else Normani. No one can say what we get to be." I said to her and grabbed her hand and she shook her head.

" You think it's that easy? You think that I don't want to be with you? There are so many obstacles and things that we can't do together. You saw how I was treated tonight because we were dancing together. When we're alone together, we can just be ourselves but not when we're in public. We will never be normal to everyone. We can't rewrite our destinies. I'm not who you were meant to be with Y/N. It's not up to either of us when everyone tells us what we can be." Normani said with tears in her eyes and I shook my head angrily.

" I refuse to accept that Normani. I want to be with you and I don't care what anyone else thinks. I'm willing to change my destiny but I can't do it alone. We will handle things together. Just you and me." I said to her and she sighed again. I placed my hand against her cheek and she leaned into it. I ignored everyone around us and focused on the girl in front of me.

" I know you're scared Normani, but we can do this together. It is possible." I said to her and she seemed to think about those words. I stared at her lovingly hoping she would change her mind. She sighed and looked around. She then leaned in to kiss me and I smiled into the kiss. She pulled away but kept our foreheads together. I kept my eyes closed as I enjoyed the moment.

" I care for you deeply Y/N, but we can't be together. No one will ever accept it and you shouldn't go through that and neither should I. I'm not the one you were meant to find and I'm sorry. You will find the one for you. I know you will. I can't have you no matter how much I want you. We're bound to break and my hands are tied." She whispered to me and pulled away. I could see the tears building in her eyes.

" Normani..." I said in a pleading tone, but she stepped away from me.

" I'm sorry, Y/N." She said before she walked away from me. Tears sprung to my eyes as I felt heartbroken and dropped down against a wall.
