I waited the whole day for Dairy Queen with Liam. I don't really know why, but I was excited about it. I know we were there to talk about Caroline, but I just felt like it would be something more.
At around 4:00, I started getting ready. I wore black shorts, floral t-shirt, and strappy sandals. I headed out the door at around 4:45 because Dairy Queen wasn't that far away. When I pulled up into the parking lot, and saw Liam standing outside. He was leaned up against the wall with one leg propped up behind him.
"Hey Li!" I announced
"Ooh how'd you come up with one for me, Mandy?"He grinned.
"Well LI-am...so I got just Li. Pronounced like lee." I answered, excited that I actually came up with one for him.
"Ah I see, nice...shall we go inside?" He asked, sounding very formal.
"So we shall." I played along. We walked inside and ordered our "dinner". I got a crispy chicken wrap and fries and Liam ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. We sat down at an empty booth near the back of the restaurant. We started eating and exchanged a little bit of conversation.
"You have NEVER had a Big Mac before?!" Liam exclaimed sounding shocked at the confession I had just made.
I shrugged. "Nope. They look gross."
His eyes widened at my lack of interest. "We are going to get one. Soon. Not tonight but soon." He stated.
I smirked. "I'll do it but only if we make a deal. I'll eat a Big Mac if..." I paused to think. "You let me paint your nails. And you have to leave it on for a week."
He frowned in disapproval. "Oh no. You did not."
"And I get to pick the color." I added.
Liam shook his head. "Why?"
"Because Big Mac's look gross. Do we have a deal?"
He stopped for a minute, like he was deciding if he should accept my offer or not. "Fine." He said. I smiled and we shook on it.
After we finished eating, we decided to get blizzards.
"So about Caroline-" I started, but Liam cut me off.
"Don't. We always talk about it. Let's just deal with the loss. Grieve. Mourn. Think about her. Don't talk about the bad things. Remember the good." He stated and smiled sentimentally. ,His eyebrows moved, as if asking me if I agreed.
I smiled back and nodded. "I get it. I'm sorry, she was just my best friend and I really miss her." I looked down, then up at him.
Liam touched my arm. "I know you miss her, I do too. I really, really do. I wish there was a way we could prove it was Kristen, but really I don't know how. The police won't believe me, and even if they do, they can't even prove it." He looked sad and hopeless.
My eyes met his. "I know, but we'll find a way. There has to be one." I answered, hopeful.
He smiled a little. "I hope." He ate a spoonful of his blizzard. "You know, I know why you were Caroline's best friend. And I know she loves you. Still does." His eyes averted up, as if to look at Caroline.
When we were finished, we left and headed over to Walgreens to get the nail polish. I decided on hot pink. I also got a sparkly one so I could add sparkles. I hid both colors from him so I could surprise him. This'll be fun, I thought.
