The second day I went back to school, I got called down to the office. I figured they were gonna give me a giant card or something, but when I got there, there was a girl with dark brown hair waiting for me. The vice principal appeared and walked over to the girl. "Hello Amanda," he said, looking at me. "First of all, I am so terribly sorry about your loss. Secondly, we have a new student. She is in your grade and I truly feel that she will only assist in your recovery from this time." He smiled and motioned to the girl. Great, another thing to deal with, I thought. He went on.

"This is Kristen Balta." I gave the girl a slight smile, and she returned it. I really hoped he didn't want me to become bff's with her.

"I would like you, Amanda, to show Kristen around the school, show her to her classes, talk to her. Get to know her. Who knows, maybe you'll become friends." He gave me one last fake smile and left me with the girl. This isn't helping, this is making it worse. I can't deal with this right now. I can't. But I had to.

"Let's go," I said plainly. I wasn't in the mood for a new "buddy".
