Omg I was going through my story and realized I never published this chapter!! It's a very important chapter so here's it is! It takes place after Liam and Amanda start talking to the police officer and before they go home and decide to go to Dairy Queen. Sorry!
"She was, is, my best friend." I started. Liam grabbed my hand from under the desk. I calmed down. "She would always help anyone in need and was always looking for more people or things to be nice to. I, on the other hand, am loud and crazy usually. But we balance each other." I decided to cut myself off there, not wanting to waste the officer's time with tears.
"And you?" The officer asked, pointing to Liam. He scribbled some notes down on the clipboard.
"Caroline and I were dating for about a week or so." Liam responded. Officer Geran wrote down a few more notes.
"Okay, and now about Kristen." He stated. "What was your relationship like with her?" He asked me.
"Um, well, she was apparently a new student at our school, and I was put in charge of walking her around and stuff. I actually became friends with her for a while. But then I talked to Liam," I turned to look at him. "And he said he saw her at the scene, and so we started to investigate ourselves. She was starting to look, like a suspect, to us, and then she just went crazy." I said. "Sorry, Liam, I just told the whole story." I laughed. He tightened his grip on my hand and smiled.
"And Liam, why were you at the scene?" The officer asked. Liam answered.
This went on for about an hour until we were asked if we would like to see Kristen. Liam and I exchanged glances.
"Um, sure." I replied. Officer Geran brought us to Kristen's interrogation room and told us we could ask her questions if we pleased. He opened the door and led us inside. It was just a small room with a few chairs and a table. There were waters on the table, but in didn't expect us to be here that long. The room was empty right now, as they were bringing Kristen in, in a few minutes. Liam and I unhooked hands and took a seat in the chairs provided. We talked a little but were interrupted by the door swinging open and Kristen being brought in. She was tied to a chair and handcuffed. Her dark brown hair was tangled and dirty. Her skin had scabs and bruises. Her eyes were bright red.
"Why hello there, Amanda," she started. She even sounded creepy. "And Liam of course. What happened?" She asked, though it wasn't sincere. Liam told her and she smirked. "Sorry," she whispered. She leaned back in her chair and I just watched her. How could I have ever thought of becoming her friend? Why? I shot a glance at Liam. He was looking straight ahead at her.
The room was silent so I decided to speak up. "Why?" I asked. "Why did you have to do this?"
Kristen smirked again. "You'll never understand, sweetie." She spit out. "You wouldn't understand the things you've done to me."
I squinted. "What have I done?" I questioned, curious to know what I had ever done to deserve this. For Liam to deserve this. For Caroline to deserve this.
"Do you remember freshman year?" I nodded. "What about Lila? Do you remember her?" She asked. I thought about it. Lila was a small, blond-haired freshman who I had a few classes with. I didn't really like her and we had gotten into a few fights but it wasn't that bad. Apparently, she had killed herself in the middle of the year, but no one knew why. What did she have to do with this? "Oh Lila...she was my best friend," Kristen started. "And she killed herself. Why? I don't know exactly, but you and her didn't have a good relationship. The more I talked to you, once I met you in person, the more I started to hate you." She stopped.
"You met me after Caroline was killed," I said.
"That's what you think. I pretended to be a few other people, but that doesn't matter." Kristen stated. "When I talked to you, you were always with Caroline. You two reminded me of Lila and I. I hated it. I knew if I killed you, you wouldn't feel any pain, other than the bullet, so I decided to strike you in your weak spot. Caroline."
My head raced. Caroline was killed because of me? I stood up and left the room. I was done. Liam followed me and we drove home.
