I walked Kristen around the school and she tried to make small talk, but I discouraged it as much as possible.

"So do we have any of the same classes?" She asked as she walked next to me. She seemed nice. Maybe she'll forgive me later on for acting like this. I don't even think she knows about what happened.

"Um no I don't think so." I replied. The rest of the day went on like that. Kristen said she transferred from another school and another state entirely, although she never said which one.

12:30pm Saturday

I got called into the police station to give facts or something about Caroline's case, and I think it was just for the extra information. I couldn't remotely think that they thought I was a suspect.

I gave the officers all the information I knew, like what happened when I got there, what the scene looked like, and if I could give them any description of the man I saw running.

At the end of the session, the main police officer handed me a note.

"We found this in Caroline's bedroom. It's addressed to you. Hasn't been opened yet, so feel free to read it whenever you're comfortable." He said. He was being sincere, and I thanked him.

When I got home and ran up to my room and closed the door. I sat on my bed and opened the note:

Dear Amanda,

First of all, as you know, you are my best friend. No one can ever replace you in my heart. I know you know about the blackmailing, and I don't don't know what will happen because of it. This person has been threatening my life, and I'm not sure it will go on much longer. This is why I am writing this letter to you. In case something happens to me. Please forgive me for anything I have done, and I just want you to know, I love you. There will never be anyone as special as you. And if something bad happens, just know that one day, we will be together again.

With love, from your best friend,

Caroline
