"Mom, look at that robot!" A little girl pointed at one of the androids on display in excitement. "Can we get it?" She asked her mother, grabbing onto the hem of her shirt with pleading eyes. The woman shook her head as she took the child by her hand.
"No, Kaede," she said, "time to go now."
"But Mooom," the girl whined as she followed her mom outside the store.
Meanwhile, a pale man pushed the glass door open, letting himself inside the store.
One of the employees working there quickly recognised him, taking the man towards a tan-skinned AX400 android.
"Here you go, Mr. Komaeda," an employee said, gesturing him towards an android on display. "I gotta say, getting it back into working order was tricky, but it's perfectly fine now," he added with a small chuckle at the end.
"We had to wipe its memory, though. Hope you don't mind."
"Ah, of course not!" Komaeda quickly shook his hands in response.
"If I may ask," the employee said, "what happened to it?"
Komaeda scratched his neck, looking around the store awkwardly.
'Well, my girlfriend went into one of her anger outburst two weeks ago and wrecked it.'
"U-Uhm, I... accidentally ran it over. W-With my car," he stammered, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his jeans. The employee blinked at him in disbelief, eying him in suspicion. "Y-Yeah, stupid accident, right?" He let out a half-hearted laugh, earning a questioning glance from the worker.
"Anyway, did you give it a name?"
"Yeah, I did."
"Alright," the employee cleared his throat. "AX400, register your name."
"Hajime," Komaeda said.
The android's eyes lit up as it was activated by the command.
"My name is Hajime."
