Chapter six: Crystal's Last Words
It was early in the morning, snow was falling threw the trees and Ace was staring up at the sky, lost in thought. He had not seen his friends for three days, he had still been wondering about what Dark Flame said, was he just using Amy to replace Crystal. "Since when have you let Dark Flame get to you." Someone asked from the right of him, he could tell by the voice that he was a girl and it was a voice he recognized. "Crystal?" he asked then he turned to where the voice was coming from, hovering above the ground where he had turned to was a light blue hedgehog, she was wearing a yellow short sleeve short and a navy blue skirt. She was slightly transparent, "I've missed you." She said and a tear streamed down her cheek. "How can you be here Crystal, Dark Flame killed you." Ace said to her, "Yes he did, but it seems you really need me so I've come back for a short time." Ace walked over to her and tried to hug her but his arms went through her. "I'm sorry but its impossible to touch me." Crystal said then another tear steamed down the other cheek. "Your confused so I'm here to help you." Crystal said and then continued, "I know you can't figure out how you feel, whether you are using Amy to replace me, but you need to move on, no matter how much either of us want I can't come back." More tears began forming in her eyes and falling on to the snow. "I understand." Ace said to her, then he continued, "But that doesn't mean we can't spend the rest of the time you have here together." She smiled at him and said "I don't have much time left, but I want to spend the time I have with you." They both lay beside each other under a tree, "You've changed." Crystal said to him, "Did me dying really effect you that much?" She asked him. "You always made me the happy, just being around you, I didn't feel that anymore once you died, then I met Amy, she made me as happy as you did." Ace said, "Do you still care about me?" Crystal asked Ace, "Of course I do. I love you and I always will." Ace said. Crystal then began crying, "I'll never be able to talk to you again." She said to Ace, her voice began cracking, "I know, but that doesn't mean you can't remember the time we spent together." Ace said to her. "Now I remember how I fell in lo-." She paused for a moment and then continued, "I guess this is the last chance I'll get to say it. I Iove you." More tears ran down her cheek and then she disappeared.
Ace screamed in frustration and began punching the ground, then a he heard a voice in his head, it was Crystal's, "Don't let what happened to me happen to Amy, and enjoy life with her." Tears began forming in his eyes, then he whipped the tears from his eyes and said, "I will make sure it doesn't." Ace began walking in the direction where the battle with Eggman was, after half an hour he had found th spot. He knew his way back home from there and began running as fast as he could, after a minute he arrived, he knocked on the door and after less than half a minute the door opened, Amy was standing on the other side of the doorway just staring at him. She walked out and closed the door behind her, "Have you made your decision?" Amy asked Ace. He didn't say anything, pulled her close and kissed her, she hesitated for a moment then kissed him back, after about a minute they stopped. Amy's and Ace's cheeks had turned bright red, Amy more so, Ace wrapped his arms around Amy, "I've figured it out, I want to stay with you." Ace said, Amy smiled at him and said, "I'd like that." They stopped hugging and walked back inside, Ace had one arm around her. They were greeted by Cream who ran up to them and said, "You guys worked things out." Cream was smiling at them. "Guys, Ace us back and everything is fine now!" Cream called up the stairs, everyone came down except Shadow, who didn't really give a damn. Ace was welcomed by everyone, though he mostly stayed focused on Amy who was holding his hand.
Ace and Amy were sitting in the backyard staring up at the sky, the stars had come out but something was wrong, Amy could tell that there was something Ace was hiding. "What's wrong Ace, there is something bugging you." Amy said to him, he sighed and said, "Before I came back Crystal came, I'm not sure how but I couldn't touch her, she helped me figure things out. That was the last time I saw her and I can't help but feel sad." Ace said as tears began forming in his eyes. "I understand, you love her but you can't see her again, you don't have to hold in the tears, I'm here for you." Amy said to him, the tears began to stream down his cheeks, "I'm happy I met you." Ace said to Amy, "So am I." She said in response, then she leaned her head on his shoulder. Ace put one arm around her, "Did she ever have a funeral?" Amy asked Ace. He looked at the ground for a moment, Amy could see tears hitting the snow, "No." He said, "I'll be right back." Amy said to Ace. She walked to the gate and into the front yard, after a few minutes she came back with a large smooth rock and a red rose, she pushed the rock partly in the ground and placed the rose in front of it. "I know its not really special, but its something." Amy said to Ace, Ace hugged Amy and said, "Thank you." She hugged him back, "I think you need a moment alone, I'll just be inside." Amy said to him and she walked inside. Ace walked over to the rock and dug threw the snow, he stopped and pulled out a sharp rock. He began carving part of the rock and the edges, once he finished there were words on the rock and it was rounded, the writing said, "R.I.P Crystal." Ace said down next to the rock. "I will never forget you." Ace said, then he got up and walked back inside.
It was late, around midnight and Ace was lost in thought, he had been through a lot today, but couldn't help feeling guilty, he had seen so much sadness in Crystal's eyes before she disappeared, he felt like he had betrayed her. She loved him so much and she was asking him to move on, how could he, he had loved her as well and had for almost his whole life. The thought left him when he heard a noise coming Amy's room, he ran out of his room and rushed down the hall, he pushed the door to Amy's room open. Amy was still asleep, but the window to her room was broken and Dark Flame was standing beside her with a large shard of glass in his hand. Ace ran at him and tackled him out the window, Amy woke up and ran to the broken window, she saw Ace and Dark Flame shooting fire at each other, she could see something sticking out of Ace's arm, but she couldn't tell what it was. Ace was fighting a losing battle, the shard of glass Dark Flame was holding was sticking out of his arm, blood dripped from another cut on his other arm, "You know you've lost." Dark Flame began forming a large ball of black fire above his head, "Say hello to Crystal in the after life." Dark Flame, then the large ball of fire began speeding towards Ace.
Amy ran down the hall shouting, "Hurry, Ace is battling Dark Flame in the back yard!" Many of the doors in that hallway swung open, Silver, Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, Blaze and Shade ran down the stairs and out the back door. They saw Ace kneeling on the ground and Dark Flame holding a ball of black fire above his head, "Say hello to Crystal in the after life." Dark Flame said, then the ball of fire began speeding towards Ace, Silver began glowing turquoise and so did the ball of fire, it stopped in front of Ace and began speeding towards Dark Flame. "I thought you were smarter then that, to attack us here." Sonic said, "Remind me how this guy killed you." Silver said, Ace looked over at Sonic with a confused expression, "It's a long story." Sonic said. "I guess I can't fight now." Dark Flame said then he was surrounded by smoke and disappeared. Amy rushed out carrying a first aid kit, she ran over to Ace and saw what was sticking out of his arm, "Ace, are you alright?" Amy asked, Ace pulled out the shard of glass and got up, "I'm fine." He said, Amy ran over to him and opened the first aid kit, she pulled out a roll over bandages and wrapped it around Ace's arm. She cut it from the roll and wrapped it around the other arm, Blaze walked over to rock that was sticking out of the ground and read the words on it, "R.I.P Crystal. Was she burried here." She asked, "No it was just because she never had a funeral." Ace said, "Oh, I'm sorry. It must be hard to think about that." Blaze said, "Its fine." Ace said then he noticed that Amy was holding on to his arm, "Are you sure your alright?" She asked Ace, he smiled at her and said, "I'm much better now." Everyone walked back inside, "I can't believe I got up for this." Shadow said, "Next time I'll try to lose a fight quietly." Ace said, Amy laughed a bit and went back upstairs, "What about you window?" Ace asked, "Right." Amy said, "I think I have an idea." Ace said, he walked into Amy's room and lifted up her mattress and carried it to his room, then he went back and picked up the bed frame and brought it to his room, he placed the mattress on the bed frame, "There you go." Ace said, "Your ok with this?" Amy asked, "I won't be ok if Dark Flame attacks you again." Ace said, Amy hugged him and said, "Don't ever change." He smiled at her and said, "I promise."
