Chapter nine: Life or Death
It had been three days since the tournament and things were not looking up, Ace had been in the hospital every since the tournament and no one was a loud to see him. "Don't worry I'm sure he will be fine." Cream said to Amy, she didn't respond, she stared at the ground letting her tears fall to the floor. "Skates, do you think Ace will survive this?" Amy asked, her voice was cracking, "I don't know, Ace is strong, but he has his limits, he has never taken a beating that bad. I'm sorry." Skates said. "Excuse me, are you all here for Ace the hedgehog?" A doctor asked, "Yes." Silver said, "Well Ace won't be able to see anyone for a few days, I suggest you head home, we will let you know if anything happens." The doctor said, then she walked away. "I'm not going." Amy said, "Come on Amy, Ace won't be awake for a while." Cream said, "And I'm gonna be here when he wakes up." Amy said.
It had been another week and Amy was beginning to lose hope, until one a doctor said to her, "Are you here for Ace?" The doctor asked, "Yes." She said, "Well he is awake. You can see him." The doctor said, Amy instantly got up and headed to Ace's room. She got to the room in a matter of seconds, she pulled the door open and saw Ace lying on a bed staring up at the ceiling, he turned his gaze to Amy and smiled, Amy's eyes filled with tears, "I'm sorry." Ace said, Amy began crying, and ran over to Ace, she burried her head in his shoulder. He put his arm around her, "I'm so sorry Amy, I hurt you too much these past days, I never wanted to." Ace said, then he lightly kissed her forehead, "I'm so glad your ok, I didn't think you were gonna make it." She said, "Good news though, they said I can go home today." Ace said. "What happened after I passed out, did anyone get hurt?" Ace asked, "No, we rushed you here, but Dark Flame got the Chaos Emerald." Amy said. "That's good, let's head home." Ace said.
"Welcome home." Amy said as she and Ace arrived at their house, he hugged her tightly, "You know it's only home if your here." Ace said, she giggled a bit and opened the door, "Guess who's not dead!" Ace shouted into the house. His eyes widened, he saw Dark Flame holding Shadow by the neck, there were four Chaos Emeralds circling his head, he turned to Ace and Amy. "Let go of him." Ace said, "Fine I have what I came for, and you will all be dead soon." Dark Flame said, then he disappeared. "Dark Flame has all the Chaos Emeralds, we have to stop him." Shadow said, "I got it, you guys handle things here." Ace said, Amy turned to him with a shocked expression, "Ace, you can't, Dark Flame is too strong." Amy said. "I don't have to fight him, I can use Chaos Control and take the Chaos Emeralds, then beating him won't be hard." Ace said, he smiled and ran out the door, "Skates, Dark Flame has all of the Chaos Emeralds, I'm going after him, can you head to the house, they could use your help." Skates said into his communicator, "You sure about this?" Skates asked. "Not really, just make sure they're ok." Ace said, "Ok then, good luck." Skates said. Ace stopped running and looked at the sky, there were dark clouds forming west of town, he thought o himself, 'Amy if I don't come back I'm sorry.' He began heading in the direction of the clouds at super speed.
"Finally, I will regain my power and more." Dark Flame said, as the seven Chaos Emeralds began circling him. They continued to gain speed, as they did black flames began surrounding him, then a rock hit him in the face and he fell backwards, the Emeralds began losing their speed. He looked ahead and saw Ace running at him, "You can't stop me, I have them all." Dark Flame said and the Emeralds continued to gain speed, "Chaos Control!" Ace shouted, a ball of dark energy appeared around the Chaos Emeralds, it blasted Dark Flame back. "What did you do?!" Ace asked, "I didn't do anything, the Emeralds are doing this." Dark Flame said. The Emeralds then rose into the air with the dark sphere of energy, they flew off in seven different directions but the sphere stayed. "Ace what is going on out there?" Amy asked, he spoke back in the communicator, "No idea, but Dark Flame no longer has the Chaos Emeralds." The sphere began shrinking, leaving five pitch black gemstones that were the same shape as the Chaos Emeralds. They flew off in different directions, "You'll pay for this." Dark Flame said, "Have you forgotten, the last time you fought me without any Chaos Emeralds you lost." Ace said, then he ran off at super speed.
"So Dark Flame managed to stop all of you?" Amy asked her friends, "Yeah, he has gotten stronger, and now he has all seven of the Chaos Emeralds." Silver said, "Ace what's going on out there?" Amy asked into her communicator, "No idea, but Dark Flame no longer has the Chaos Emeralds." Ace said. Everyone's eyes widened, "How did he do that?" Sonic asked, "I knew he could do it." Amy said happily. "Looks like Shadow has been outmatched." Sonic said smirking, "If I wasn't covered in burns I would kill you." Shadow said. A few more minutes passed and there was a knock on the door, Amy rushed and opened the door, she pulled it open and saw Ace standing outside, Amy hugged him tightly, "Told you I would make it back." Ace said, "So what's the situation Tails asked, he had serious burns on his face. "I think we should deal with those burns, "Hey." Someone said from behind Ace and Amy, they turned around and saw Skates, he had a cut on his arm, "What happened?" Ace asked gesturing to Skates' arm. "I had a encounter of the egg variety." Skates said.
"Five pitch black gems shapped like Chaos Emeralds?" Knuckles asked, "That's what I saw." Ace said. "Knuckles do you know anything about that?" Tails asked, Knuckles shook his head and turned to Shade, "Do know anything that might have something to do with that?" Knuckles asked. She nodded and said, "I heard a legend on Nocturnus, the Chaos Emeralds were formed from the positive energy of the Master Emerald, but to balance that out they had to use the left over negative energy from doing anything to the Master Emerald they had to form five Emeralds identical to the Chaos Emeralds. They were called the Emeralds of Shadows, however they found that they can corrupt people so the original creators used the Chaos Emeralds to seal them within a gap in time and space. I'm guessing because Ace and Dark Flame used the power of the Emeralds and the same time it tore open the gap letting the Emeralds of Shadows out. It was also said that the Emeralds of Shadows are much more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds and create a guardian to protect itself." Shade said. "So if Dark Flame were to find the Emeralds he would become more powerful than ever." Skates said, Shade nodded, "Then we have no choice, we have to find the Emeralds of Shadows and seal them back between the gap between time and space." Sonic said, "But first, I think we deserve a vacation." Sonic continued.
