Chapter twenty-one: Sacrifice

(Ace's POV)

I pushed myself up, my body was still aching a bit, "Are you sure about this?"Amy asked, "I'll be ok, once we get the Chaos Emeralds." I said. I picked Amy up and quickly ran in the direction the others went, we quickly found the fighting an small group of robots. They didn't seem like anything Dr. Eggman made and they were fighting in a way that was similar to how the rest of our group was fighting. I let Amy down and then shot a beam of fire taking out the rest of the robots. "Nice timing." Skates said. "Since when have been able to create an attack that powerful?" Silver asked. He was right none of my attacks have ever been that strong unless I was in my super from. "I don't know. But I could use some help with these burns." I said. Skates put one hand on my forehead and the burns disappeared, "Thanks." I said. "What were those robots?" I asked, "They're called Gizoids. They are robots created by the Nocturnus clan that use their opponents attacks against them." Shade said. "Ok, is Ix close?" I asked, "He should be at the top of the island. We are very close." Knuckles said. We all headed up the island and soon arrived at too huge metal doors, "Ready?" Skates asked. "How are we supposed to beat Ix when he has the Master Emerald and the Emeralds of Shadows without the Chaos Emeralds?" Knuckles asked. "We'll just have to hope the others arrive soon with the emeralds." Silver said. Shadow walked up to the doors and kicked them down and we all walked in.

"Please come in." Ix said, he was standing in the center of the room with the Master Emerald floating above him and the Emeralds of Shadows circling him. He was holding his golden staff and wearing dark purple robes. "You must be in quite a rush to die." Ix said, "You honestly think you can defeat me?" Shadow asked, "I'm not fighting alone. Isn't that right Skates?" Ix asked. Everyone turned to Skates, "What is he talking about?" I asked Skates, "I don't know." Skates said. "Would you all like to know the truth?" Ix asked then continued, "Skates isn't who you think he is. He is my creation. I have complete control over his mind." Ix said then he pointed his staff at Skates, Skates began walking towards Ix, "Good, now why don't you come out Ace." Ix said. Then the Dark Ace jumped down from the ceiling and stood on the other side of Ix. "Now time to use the emeralds." Ix said and the emeralds began glowing, the three of them were now surrounded by a dark aura and the emeralds disappeared. "Good-bye." Ix said.

Skates and Dark Ace charged at us and both shot wave after wave of black fire, "Thought you beat me that easily Ace?" Dark Ace asked me. Everyone was now lying on the ground and covered in burns. My vision became blurred and I faded in unconiousness.

"Wake up Ace." I heard someone say, I didn't recognize the the voice but I could tell it was a man's voice. I slowly opened my eyes and pushed myself up. I looked in the direction the voice was going coming from, I saw a red hedgehog staring at me, he looked like he was middle aged and a bit similar to me. "Who are you?" I asked, "It has been a while, but how could you not recognize your own father?" He asked while smiling at me. "Wait does that mean I'm dead?" I asked, "No just unconious, we decided that we may need to talk to you." He said. "Who's we?" I asked and he pointed in the direction that I had my back turned to. I turned around I saw a light blue hedgehog around my age and another red hedgehog around the same age as my dad. I recognized both of them, it was my mom and Crystal, "Looks like I was able to see you again." Crystal said smiling. I smiled back at Crystal and my mom, "Ace, this isn't just a reunion. You have a choice to make." My mom said. The smile faded from my face and I asked, "Why?" They all looked confused, "Why did you give up your lives to protect me? I asked. I thought I should know the reason, "You're our son. We were happy to give our lives to protect you." My dad said. Then I turned to Crystal, "Why did you do it?" I asked her, "Ace... You risked your life so many times to protect me. I wanted you to live, because... I love you." Crystal said. "Ok, I understand, but what is this choice I have to make?" I asked. "Right now, you don't have enough strength to fight everyone, however there is a way for you to free Skates without the Chaos Emeralds. However there is a possibility that it will kill. Are you willing to accept the risk?" My dad asked. "This may be the only way to free Skates and protect my friends. I'm willing to take the risk." I said. "You are very brave." He said and the three of the raised their hands. Fire came out of all them and then went into me, "You can now use all of our strength, however if you use it too much it could kil, you. This is only in situations of no hope. Now return to the company of your friends and the other person who loves you. Good luck." He said and I returned to the battle.

"Don't you know when to quit?" Ix asked, "This time will be different I'm going to stop you and set Skates free. Guys stay back." I said. "Are you insane? They'll kill you?" Silver asked, "Don't worry. I can handle this." I said. "Ace, please don't." Amy said, "I have to. I've let too many people die. But not this time. NOT THIS TIME!" I shouted then my body became covered in flames and I was surrounded by a ball of fire. "Now let's finish this." I said a shot a beam of fire at Dark Ace, he was blasted through the wall but came charging back. "You think you can stop the power of darkness?" Dark Ace said angrily, "I don't think you heard me. I'm not going to let you kill anyone." I said. Then I a giant ball of fire at threw at Dark Ace, he was consumed by an explosion created by the fire. "I told you. You can't stop me." I said. "Hey are we too late to join the party." Someone said from behind us, I turned around and saw the other group holding the Chaos Emeralds. "Hurry, help the others and then lend me a hand." I said, "You think the Chaos Emeralds will help you stop me." Ix asked, I ran at him and grabbed the staff put his hands, "Time to set Skates free." I said and brok the staff in two. The dark aura surrounding Skates faded away, and I suppressed the extra fire power. I then collapsed to the ground, "Ace are you alright?" Skates asked and helped me up. "Yeah, that extra power took a lot out of me." I said, "How did you do that anyway?" Sonic asked. "Now is not the time, but I think you guys can win. Good luck." I said. I walked over to where Amy was and said, "Told you I could handle it."

(Skates' POV)

The Chaos Emeralds began circling, Sonic, Shadow, Silver and I and we were transformed into our super forms. "You think you can still defeat me, only Ace had enough power, but he's too weak now." Ix said. "Skates, here." Ace said he was holding a ball a large ball of fire, he tossed it to me and it fused with the blue fire that was surrounding me. "This should even the odds a bit." Ace said I nodded and began creating a giant ball of both types of fire, "Guys hold Ix off for a while." I said. Ix was holding his own against Sonic, Shadow and Silver but they were slowly wearing him down. "Skates are you really going to destroy me the one who created you?" Ix asked, "You may have created me, but you have caused so much pin for me and my friends and for that I can't forgive you!" I shouted and threw the giant ball of fire at Ix, " Guys quick, run!" I shouted, they all barely made it out of the blast range, but they lost their super form and the emeralds flew off in seven different directions. "Quick get the Emeralds of Shadow and use Chaos Control to seal them back in the gap between time and space" Ace said. The four of us picked up the emeralds that we on the ground beside Ix's motionless body. Then we used all of our energy and opened the rift, "Now throw them in." Ace said, the four of threw the emeralds in closed the gap. "You think this is over?" Ix asked. He aw still alive, we backed away from him as he got up. "I still control this island, so I will seal all of us in the nightmare dimension." Ix said, "Quick, everyone gather together, we'll have to use Chaos Control to get us off the island." Ace said. We did what Ace said and began preparing to use Chaos Control, "Not this time." Ix said and he created a ball of energy, "You will still die." Ix said. Ace moved in front of everyone. "I told you I'm going to let you kill any of my friends." Ace said. "Fool." Ix said and shot the ball of energy at Ace. "No!" Amy screamed, the ball of energy hit Ace just as we teleported back to the house.
