Chapter fourteen: Inner Darkness

(Ace's POV)

'Stop!' I kept shouting in my head, I had no control of my body, I felt like I was watching a really messed up movie. "Ace, this isn't you, stop!" Amy shouted at me, I began laughing, or whatever was controlling me was. Then a ball of fire was shot from my hand and hit Amy, "ENOUGH!" I shouted, this time it was real, I was beginning to get the control back. I dropped to me knees and began shaking uncontrollably, my quills were turned back to their normal shade of red. The shaking began to die down, I didn't get up I was just staring at the ground, "Ace, are you alright?" Amy asked. Everyone was staring at me, a few of them had some burns and bruises, but Amy's were the worst. What had happened to me, why had I attacked everyone, was it Dark Flame, maybe he challenged me just so he could control me. "Are you guys alright?" I asked everyone, "We didn't get hurt too bad, what I want to know is what happened to you, you weren't acting like yourself." Tails said. "I don't know." I said, then got up, I went from person to person healing their burns, "Did you get the emeralds?" Shadow asked. "Yeah." I said, I pulled them out and tossed them to Shadow, "We have to make sure to keep the Emerald of Shadows away from the Master Emerald." Shade said. "Are you really Ace?" Amy asked me, I couldn't blame her, I just attacked everyone, "Yeah, I'm the real Ace." I said.

(Normal POV)

It was early in the morning, almost everyone was still asleep except for two, Amy's door slowly opened and she walked out. She continued and found Ace's door wide open, she peeked her head in and saw Ace staring out the floor. "Are you ok?" Amy asked, he nodded and continued staring at the ground, "You are definitely lying." Amy said. "Yes I am." Ace said, Amy walked over and sat beside him, "What's the matter?" Amy asked. "I hurt you yesterday, it's hard to think about that." Ace said, "Its not your fault Ace, you were.... I don't know exactly what it was but it wasn't you." Amy said. Ace hugged her tightly, "Thank you." He said, "I still can't believe I did that. I could see it all happening and I couldn't stop it." He said and shivered a bit, "Are you afraid of it?" Amy asked. "The only thing I'm afraid of is losing you." Ace said then continued, "You mean more to me then anything or anyone." He said."I feel the same about you, that's why it's always to see you go off to fight Dark Flame or Eggman, I hate seeing you hurt." Amy said. "You know there is something I've been meaning to tell you." Ace said, they broke out of the hug, "I.... love you." He said. Neither of them said anything for a while until Amy leaned closer and kissed him, they stayed like that for a while, neither of them wanted the moment to end. Once they stopped Amy said, "I love you too." Both of them smiled, "I'm glad I finally got to say that." Ace said.

"So it was the Emerald of Shadows that did that to Ace" Amy asked Shade and Shade nodded, "It was because he used Chaos Control while holding onto the Emerald of Shadows." Shade said. "That's a relief." Ace said, "So just don't use Chaos Control with the Emerald of Shadows." Knuckles said. "That's all great, but shouldn't we be looking for more emeralds?" Shadow asked angrily, "Seriously, why is he always grumpy?" Ace asked. "At least you're not like that." Amy said smirking and leaning her head on Ace's shoulder, "Get a room you two." Shadow said, annoyed. "Dude, you need to chill." Sonic said to Shadow, "I cannot see this ending well." Ace said, Amy laughed a bit. "Ding, ding let the match begin." Silver said, and Shadow kicked Sonic across the face, "Guys at least fight outside." Tails said.

"I knew it wasn't going to end well." Ace said, "You guys have been fighting for hours, one of you give up." Tails said. Both Sonic and Shadow were panting, "... Give up... Shadow." Sonic said, "You can't win...I am the... ultimate life form." Shadow said, "We've heard it all before." Ace said. Both stood there for a few minutes until both of them collapsed, "And the winner is.... Everyone but them." Ace said. "Someone should take them inside." Cream said, Ace walked over to both of them and dragged them by their feet into the house. "Ace!" Amy shouted from outside, he ran out and saw Dark Flame holding her to the ground.

(Ace's POV)

I felt rage burning in the pit of my stomach, "Let her go!" I shouted at him, he picked her up and threw her back on the ground. That was it! I lit my fists on fire and knocked him away from Amy, "Are you ok?" I asked, "Yeah, be careful." Amy said. She backed away a bit, but stayed outside, "Are you really gonna fight me, I've grown more powerful then ever." Dark Flame said, I could tell he wasn't lying, the black flames that covered his body had grown larger. "I don't care, you won't hurt Amy or anyone else." I said, I wasn't about to give up.
