"Niki?"
"Come in."
Natalia opened the door slowly and closed it behind her after walking in. She wiped her hands on her jeans before taking a deep breath.
"Don't be cheesy please."
"I'll try," she laughed, "Listen. I just wanted to say thank you. For letting me back into your life. I know this wasn't easy for you."
"It was going to happen eventually."
"Just... thank you. We're going to make one kick ass team."
"I know right."
"You know," she took a step towards me, "I knew where you were."
"What?"
"I knew you were taken to the Red Room. I knew, and I didn't try to get you out. I knew, but I hated you, you weren't supposed to make it out of there. But you were gifted. And you did. And here we are."
"You were there too."
"I'm sure I could have broken us out if I really wanted to."
"It's not your fault."
"It is."
"The Red Room made me the person I am right now. I wouldn't be here, I'd be dead. I'd be in my 70s, and dead. I wouldn't have survived being homeless. It saved my life. I would have had no other place to go. You did me a favour."
"I shouldn't have left you."
"It happened. It's over. Let's move on. We have a meeting with Fury in ten."
"Oh man."
"I hope I don't fall asleep this time, he might shoot me or something."
"Try not to."
We laughed and she walked out, smiling before closing the door. We were okay. I was okay, she was okay. We were finally okay. However many years it's been, they suddenly didn't matter anymore. I didn't care. They simply didn't exist.
I don't know what changed my mind. I was so hell bent on hating her, but a switch inside of me just flipped. I don't know if it's the right choice, but it's the one I'm making. I walked into the conference room where Nick and Natalia were waiting for me.
"I'm glad we decided that we can work together."
"So am I," Natalia agreed.
They both looked at me.
"Oh, so am I, yeah.""Convincing. Anyway, let's get started."
"Okay."
We talked about who the other teams were going to be and where we would be stationed for the next six months. Six months with Natalia. "It's not too late to turn back, you know." I thought to myself. I had to stop for this to work.
"Where are we going to be?"
"Brazil."
"Brazil."
"Yes. Brazil has crime that I think you two would be the best for. You're sly and can get out of places quickly.
"Okay.""What are we going to be doing?" Natalia asked.
"Just like Nikita's Germany assignment, you will have a list, you must complete it within the six months, but if you finish before, you can either come home earlier or just vacation and/or keep watch."
"Okay."
"So how long is this list?" I chimed in.
"There are 210 targets. If any of the targets become no longer a threat, we'll let you know."
"210?"
"Yeah, 210."
"Where will we be staying?"
"You'll be rotating from city to city. We have plans already made for you to follow."
"Alright. When do we leave?"
"Next week. Get packing."
Natalia and I said goodbye and walked back upstairs to our rooms. I only had a week before I left. I had a week to say goodbye to everyone, I might not come back again. I know I wasn't scared to go to Germany, but I wasn't close to anyone then.
As much as I wish I could just leave without going through the emotional goodbye thing, I couldn't. They were my family now. They took me in when I needed it more than anything.
I took a deep breath and walked out of my room and closed the door behind me. I had a week to do this. To say goodbye to everyone.
