People tried calling her for days, which eventually turned into weeks. Nobody could reach her. She didn't answer her phone of any of our emails. I just wanted to make sure she was okay too. Well, and to yell at her. I think she needed to be yelled at by someone other than Tony. What she did was bad, but the way she handled it was worse.
It wasn't my business though, so I wasn't going to worry about it anymore. I had other things to do. I had missions and training and meetings that would keep me busy for years. I had a meeting with the director in a few hours that I really needed to go to. And I know what you're thinking, what you suddenly care about this? No, but I've skipped this meeting 4 times and I need a job.
I got ready and walked downstairs to the conference room that the meeting was in. I didn't even remember what this was supposed to be about, but I might actually die if I don't show up again. I'm pretty sure I didn't need to have anything prepared, but if I did, man am I screwed.
I couldn't even remember who was even going to be here. There was an email that was sent out back when the meeting was supposed to happen but I can't remember who was on that chain. I think I was late too, there aren't many clocks around here and I forgot my phone upstairs.
I threw the door open and just Nick was sitting in there.
"Nice if you to show up this time. It only took me four tries."
"I was busy."
"Whatever. Sit down, we've got some bases to cover and I only booked this room for an hour."
"Fine."
He talked and talked and talked. He did not stop talking. About so many things. So many things that I really didn't care all that much about. I zoned out for the majority of it.
"Nikita."
"Yes?"
"Are you with me here?"
"Yes."
"What did I just say?"
"Something about money which doesn't concern me because Tony has the money. I just use his."
"No. I said that weapons will be having more security so you now have an access code. Where are you getting money from?"
"I was guessing."
"You suck at guessing."
"You suck at making this meeting interesting."
"You know I'm your boss, right?"
"I'm aware. How much longer is this going to take?"
"That depends on whether or not you want to listen."
"What if I don't?"
"Then you'll be stuck with me for a long time."
"I'll listen, stop trying to scare me."
And so he rambled. And he rambled. He never seemed to stop. I heard every word he said, a lot of it chose not to stick in my brain, but I heard it. Codes blah blah, badges blah blah, money blah blah, teams. The teams part was really all that I listened to. And then I got mad.
"What do you mean I'm on Natalia's team?"
"It works out that way."
"How?"
"Your similar fighting styles make you two a powerful duo."
"Duo? It's going to be just us two?"
"Yes."
"You're killing me here."
"With Natasha by your side, I'll be making sure you don't die. Leaving you by yourself is killing you."
"I'd rather be with anyone else! Anyone!"
"Natasha is your best fit. She's fine with it."
"My one condition for me joining you people, was for me to stay as far away from her as you could get me. You're doing the opposite here."
"This is how it's going to be. Stop complaining."
"I quit."
"You can't quit. You signed a contract."
"I don't care. I'm not doing the work.""Then I'll throw you in jail."
I thought for a moment.
"Do it."
