Chapter 28

Satan left Irina standing like a threadbare dessert and strolled across the hallways and into the stairwell - the absolute horror for someone with a super sensitive ear. The staircase was what separated the middle and high schoolers from each other. While the middle school had the complete left part of the school for itself, the high school, apart from the canteen, had the complete right part. But the staircase was besieged by all grades and consequently the fucking loudest place of the whole building. The seventh graders screamed at one another, even though they were standing right next to each other. The eighth graders were even worse and roared across the hallways as if they were all hearing impaired. The ninth and tenth graders, on the other hand, were annoyed by it and didn't want anything to do with the shame years of their school. Satan would have preferred to throw his pencil case into these little brats' faces or sew their mouths shut so that the noise level would go down a bit. Would be nice. Lucy, however, already seemed a little absent the whole day. It was like his thoughts were somewhere else. Lucy was like that pretty often, and always when something kept him busy. If it was something important, he would have told Satan all along, so he had decided not to inquire. To reach the physics room without his tortured eardrum going phut was first of all his priority. Everything else came second. How could Yuki stand this shit every day? She had to be deaf by now! Were all seventh and eighth grades noisy like this? If so, then halle fucking luja.

He entered the physics room with nerves bare and gnawed off. He dropped his bag next to his chair and sat down. Kenji arrived shortly after him. "Can't those little assholes out there either shut the fuck up or talk quietly? You can't stand that in your head", he grumbled no less annoyed than Satan. "Good question", Satan sighed. Seconds later, they could hear Lucy's voice screaming all through the school building. "COULD YOU PLEASE KEEP IT DOWN OR ARE YOU ALL EAR-AMPUTATED?! SHUT THE FUCK UP, IT'S WAY TOO LOUD!!", "Thank you, Kaito.", they heard Hayato say. "Okay. He's seriously pissed off when he starts yelling like a dragon", Satan commented. Lucifer joined them a little later and slammed his bag on the table, so that almost the whole floor vibrated. Some in the room twitched from the sudden clap. "It's best not to talk to him", Satan advised Kenji. "If he's in that mood, he'll kill the next person who talks to him.", "That bad?", "Far worse.", "Oh dear..." 

On their way home, Lucy and Satan searched for a deserted alleyway where they could open a Rauco portal. They passed two people who were busy with sewer work. "Pooh, that stinks", Satan said, holding his nose shut. Lucy just wrinkled his and switched to breathing through his mouth. Suddenly, something moved in Satan's corner of the eye and his gaze twitched to a MONSTER. A big fat brown sewer rat. "WAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! A-A MONSTER!!!! CHASE IT AWAY, LUCY! I'M BEGGING YOU!!! MAKE IT GO AWAY OR KILL IT!!!" Lucy rolled his eyes. "Oh man.... You're acting like a five-year-old." He pulled out a throwing knife and threw it at the rat. It got stuck in the ground next to it and the animal flinshed feverishly before it ran away. Lucy opened his hand and let the knife fly back into it using his time magic before putting it away. "Happy?", "Thank you." Satan breathed out, but then went on quickly. He didn't want to risk running into another beast like that.

At the next morning, they entered the classroom together. A group of people had gathered around Ryouta's table and they heard them speak quietly. "That's terrible...." Mami Akane muttered. "Yes, especially because no man could do such a thing..." Rokuro murmured. "These injuries are unnatural... Looks more like a wild animal. Or a dog.", "Dogs as mass murderers?" Mio Momonari asked. "Hardly, Kuro." Lucy narrowed his eyes and then pushed through to the table. His eyes fell on the newspaper lying on the table in front of Ryouta. "What's this all about?" he asked. "About the headline", Ryouta informed him. Lucy pointed at the paper. "May I have a read?" Ryouta nodded. Lucy took the paper and read the article. His gaze became darker with every sentence. "..." 

He put the newspaper back on the table and went to Satan, who was involved in a conversation with Kenji and Satsuki. "Raiden. We need to talk. Now.", "Uh...Okay...?" Lucy grabbed him by the wrist and literally dragged him outside. Satan almost stumbled. "Hey! Look out! What's gotten into you?", "We got a problem.", "What?", "I saw it.", "What? Can you please speak plainly?", "Future Fragment. I saw Ninqairas in Starfell attacking people. That's why I came to this school in the first place. We are closer to what happens in the world in here... And students talk a lot", "'xcuse me...?", "Bacarra saw some here a little while ago. In the city. Three of them. He killed them, but there were these 'murder cases' talked about in the newspapers that happened yesterday. The article and also the pictures... They were not attacked by dogs or other humans. You hear me?!", "Yeah, ok, ok, I got that but how are we supposed to find them in the first place?", "I'll contact Awari and the others from the UH Squad on the way. I'm sure they have already made a discovery.", "Okay, then let's go." Lucy nodded and they both ran down the stairs.
