The light of day snuck into my bedroom, waking me up.
I groaned. "Fuck you, light."
But the sun continued to creep in. I sat up, rubbing my eyes. I looked around, noticing clothing scattering the room. I collapsed back on the pillow.
Wait, what? I frowned as I noticed my shirt on the ceiling fan. What the fuck? How did that get there?
Oh. Right.
I lifted up the covers to make sure my boxers were still on. Check.
I rolled over to Stella, who was busy kitten snoring. After 5 minutes with no sign of her waking, I got up. I slid some grey sweatpants on; proceeding to pick up Stella's clothes and put them beside her. I tried to wipe the stupid smile off of my face as I recalled the events of last night. But the smile wouldn't leave.
Before opening my door, I glanced back up at the ceiling fan. I'll get the motherfucker later.
I wandered to the kitchen, to find my mom pouring three cups of coffee. "Morning, Sweetie. I got Stella a cup of coffee when she wakes up."
"How did you know Stella was-" I stopped. "Right."
"So how was your date last night, Will?"
"Fun," I sat down at the table. "I took her to dinner. And we might have went to a couples counseling meeting."
"Part of me wants to know," My mom shook her head. "But the other part of me says that knowing would be more disturbing then anything I could ever imagine."
"Good choice, Mom." I grabbed my phone off the counter and walked out to our back porch.
I decided to give Jason a call.
"Wasup, man?" Jason's voice leaked through the phone speaker.
"Dude, listen," The smile was back again. "Last night, Stella and I-"
Jason gasped. "Broke up?!"
"No, no." I laughed. "Lets just say that we had fun."
"Really?" Jason laughed. "Oof, do you know who is going to be pissed when she hears this?"
I groaned. "Shelby."
"Yeah, we both know that she still has it bad for you even though you broke it off years ago."
"No kidding." Shelby was my girlfriend before I was taken out of school. I called it off because she was so obsessive. And would always freak out at me if I had asked a different girl what 2 plus 2 was. Shelby still calls me and texts, asking me out sometimes. I only reply when she asks how I'm doing.
"Most of the school found out about you and Stella," Jason coughed. "I'm not sure about Shelby."
"Great. Its a matter of time before she comes banging on my door." I laughed.
"Bro, your gonna jinx it." Jason warned.
"Yeah right."
"Watch your back, Will." Jason sighed.
"Alright, I'll call you later. I'm gonna check on Stella."
"Bye, man!" Jason said before hanging up.
I slid my phone into my pocket and made my way back inside. I walked up the stairs and slowly opened the door to my room. Stella was dressed, but lying on top of my bed. And was wearing my shirt. Not the one on the fan.
"Hey," I said, joining her.
"Hi," Stella pursed her lips, hiding a smile. I shook my head and kissed her lightly on the cheek. "Thanks for letting me stay."
"Anytime, Stell."
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
Stella sat up on the bed, and I made my way to open the door.
"Will," My mother started. "I'm off to work. There's coffee and money on the table just in case you both need anything."
"You didn't have to, Mom."
"I know, but I wanted to." My mom looked at Stella. "Hey, Stella. How are you?"
"I'm just great, Mrs. Newman." Stella smiled.
My mom looked up and frowned. I followed her gaze to the fan. Crap. "Why is your shirt on the fan, Will?"
"Like you said before, knowing is much more disturbing than anything you could ever imagine."
"Yep," My mom sighed. "I'm out. Have fun, you two."
I closed the door slowly, before turning back to Stella; who was having trouble keeping a straight face.
"Busted." She choked out.
"Shut up, Stella. Your the one that threw it obnoxiously high." I shot.
"Right. But your the one that put-"
"We are not going there." I pointed a finger at her. I jumped on the bed and started tickling her.
"Oh my gosh, Will. Stop." Stella gasped, laughing.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
This time the knocking came from the front door.
"Here we go again," I got up. "Its probably my mom."
I wandered to the door and swung it open. I almost threw up my new lungs when I realized who it was. Shelby.
Dang. I jinxed it.
And Shelby, was pissed.
"What the hell, Will!" Shelby spat in my face. "A new girlfriend?!"
"Yes," I ran my fingers through my hair. "Is there a problem?"
"Heck yeah, there is!" Shelby screamed.
"Oh my god," I rolled my eyes. "Your going to wake up aliens from another planet; and they are going to capture us if you keep screaming. Talk like a normal person."
She didn't stop. "How could you get another girlfriend!"
"Shelby, I broke up with you. And you need to move on."
"This is her, right?" Shelby shoved her phone in my face with Stella's YouTube pulled up.
"How did you-"
"Doesn't matter," Shelby snapped, her blonde hair flying everywhere. "You are a liar. You are a jerk, an asshole, and a lame sickie like your girlfriend."
Before I could retort, Shelby slapped me.
And that was her final mistake, because Stella came out behind me; livid and fuming.
