I told Stella to close her eyes because I knew that once again; I wasn't going to walk away if those gorgeous, sad eyes were staring up at me. I closed her eyes with my thumbs and told her to count to 10. Before I stepped through the doors to my fate, I looked back at Stella. Then I slammed my eyelids shut an forced myself to walk away.

"Hey, Baby," Barb walked over to me. "You OK?"

I was lying down on the surgical bed, awaiting new lungs that were arriving any minute.

"Yeah," I smiled at Barb. "Where's Stella?"

"Stella and her parents are in the waiting room. And Stella's asleep," Barb chuckled. "You both fell for each other, didn't you?"

" Yeah, I guess." I looked up. " I love her."

Suddenly, My thoughts flashed to my father. What was I going to do? These lungs were a second chance at life for me, so shouldn't my dad have the same chance? As much as I hated the thought, I knew what I had to do.

"Hey, Barb? Can you do me a favor?"

"What is it?"

"Is it possible to donate some of my blood to my father? Like right now?"

Barb cleared her throat. "I mean, we could do it now. But your lungs-"

"It'll be quick." I pressed.

"Fine! But we need to be snappy about this." Barb exited the room.

Not even five minutes later, she re-entered with a few other doctors. Soon, I felt a needle pierce my vein. I watched as the blood ran through the tube into a clear bag.

This better be worth it, Dad.

"Will! Your lungs are here. I'm gonna put you under, OK?" Barb sealed the bag-o-blood.

"Thanks, Barb," I coughed. "For everything."

Barb squeezed my hand. "Your blood is on its way to your father. Julie knew where to send it and what not. Your dad left that information with her just in case you changed your mind."

"Good."

"See you soon, William." Barb walked away.

I felt a mask cover my nose, and now it was my turn to count to 10. By the time I got to 6, the room started to fade away. I pictured Stella's hand in mine, as I slipped into a black abyss.
