Stella bolted. She flew out the door and ran through the halls. With my milkshake. My milkshake.
"Stella!" I called as I ran after her, even though my crappy lungs were already screaming for me to stop. " I swear.."
She finally stopped when we came to the abandoned hallway of the NICU.
"Wait, did you want your milkshake?" Stella teased.
I faked a coughing spurt and I collapsed to the ground. Yes, my lungs were killing me, but not to the point of total paralyzation and 'I've fallen and I cant get up."
I heard Stella gasp and out of the corner of my eye, I saw her run towards me. She knelt down at my side, and abandoned the milkshake by my arm. PERFECT!
"Oh my gosh," Stella leaned over me. " I totally forgot about your lungs. Are you OK? Can you hear me, Will?"
I snatched the milkshake and jumped to me feet.
"Will!" Stella put a hand over her heart. " You scared me, Will! Your such an asshole!"
"I'm a hot asshole though. I have the looks!" I blew her a kiss.
"Your lucky I love you."
When she stood up, I used my free hand to snake it around her knees and hoist her over my shoulder.
"Will!" Stella demanded. "Put me down!"
I felt her tiny fists pound on the small of my back. But I heard her laughing. I sighed and took a sip of my milkshake as I hit the elevator button to the lobby. This was gonna be fun.
The elevator doors opened and I strolled through the lobby, saying hello to everyone I saw.
"Hello, Julie," I saw Julie at the desk after I returned to the C-Wing, my lungs on fire. "How's your night goin'?
"Julie!" Stella screeched. "Help me please!"
"Sorry, Princess," I smirked at Julie who was giving me the evil eye." Julie can't come to the phone right now. Please leave a message and call back another time."
I continued walking, drinking my milkshake with Stella slung over my shoulder. I finally put her down when we got to my room.
Bad Idea.
Stella opened my mini fridge and pulled out my can of whipped cream. She attacked me. With come colorful words and that can of whipped cream.
"How dare you!" Stella ranted while she covered me with the whipped cream. I just sat on the floor, taking the hits like a man. " You are gonna pay, Will!"
I scooped up a handful off of my head and when I stood up, I smeared it all over her face and hair.
Her expression was priceless.
" William Mitchell Newman." Stella stated.
I leaned down and kissed her, tasting the whipped cream that lined her lips.
After a minute, Stella pulled away laughing and ran to the bathroom to wash her face off. As for me, well- needless to say I needed a shower. Bad.
After about 10 minutes of hearing that poor sink turn off and on, I approached the bathroom and stood behind Stella. She was busy taking out every little bit of whipped cream from her hair. Seriously?! I will never under stand women. Here I am, covered in the stuff and Stella here is taking her grand old time removing barely any whipped cream.
Choosing not to nag her about it, I gazed at her through the bathroom mirror.
"God, your perfect, Stella." I said finally.
She stopped working and gazed at me with her hazel eyes. Stella turned around and put her arms around my neck. I leaned down so our foreheads met. We just stood there, eyes closed, unmoving.
We stood there a good while until Stella checked her watch. "Gosh. Its almost 11."
I nodded. "I'm gonna take a shower."
"I'm gonna sit down," Stella smiled at me and took my hand. " I love you Will. And no matter what happens, I always will. I know you will make the right choice when it comes to your father."
And with that, she walked out of the bathroom. I shut the door and took a shower.

When I got dressed, I opened the bathroom door to see a sleeping Stella in a chair across the room. She really didn't look that comfortable. I picked her up and set her down on my bed. I also hopped in, but stayed on the opposite side.
"Will?" I rolled over to see Stella looking at me with tired eyes. " Do you mind if I sleep next to you? Its freezing in here."
I don't blame her. I keep the AC on all the time. Its like an ice box in here.
"Sure, Stell. Come here." I patted the spot next to me. She rolled over and rested her head on my shoulder. I stroked her hair until I heard her kitten snore.
I smiled. I was falling for this girl over and over again. I knew what I was gonna do tomorrow. I was gonna ask her to be my girlfriend officially. Her father had granted me premission a while ago to ask her, but I never did because I still had the B-Cepacia.
But now, I can.
