When Katherine opened her eyes she felt like she'd been hit by a truck.
Her abdomen hurt like a bitch and as she tried to move she realized she couldn't feel her legs. Katherine tilted her head down and saw they were still there, so why weren't they moving?
Her eyes flickered around the dim room and saw she was in her own bed, it was quiet and the curtains were drawn the only light coming from her orange lava lamp. Katherine yanked the covers off of her body and sat up, though she regretted it when sharp pains rushed to her stomach.
She laid back down and lifted her clean shirt (that apparently she'd been changed into) to see her large bullet wound covered up with multiple stitches. It made her look so ugly, and Katherine sniffled lightly when she realized the scar it'd leave would make her even uglier.
Katherine tried to move her legs again to stand but they didn't budge, she tried again with the same result and then she began to panic. The pain she felt in her stomach faded as the only thing she could focus on was the fact that her legs weren't moving.
She didn't even hear her door open and she barely acknowledged when Luther kneeled beside her. "Kat, Kat, listen to me!" He said loudly, his eyes wide with concern for his sister.
"My- my legs they're not- I can't-" she choked out, her breathing rapid.
"Stop! Okay, stop!" Luther shook her shoulders which seemed to help a little but not much. "You need to calm down, alright? You just got shot, you can't be moving around this much, just lay back down." He said sternly, well aware of the fact that Katherine probably wouldn't listen to him.
The memories of what happened rushed back and Katherine slowly laid back down, wincing at the pain in her stomach. She closed her eyes and exhaled shakily but they shot back open when a lightbulb went off.
"Do you think I could..." Luther gave his sister a look of confusion, watching as she sat back up again. "Do you think I could heal myself?"
"I-I don't know you've never tried it on yourself." Katherine's hands hovered above her stomach in uncertainty. "But what if it backfires?" Luther said suddenly making his sister scoff.
"How would this backfire?" She said in offense and Luther realized that Katherine wasn't thinking quite straight. "I'm already para-" Katherine cut herself off and took a breath before putting her hands on her stomach.
A black mist flowed from her hands but her concentration broke and it disappeared when the door to her room swung open again, revealing Allison. "Kitty! You're awake!" Allison rushed her sister and lightly hugged her; afraid of hurting her even more.
"Hey Alley cat."
"I'm so glad you're awake, you scared the hell out of us." Both girls chuckled lightly as Luther pulled Allison back gently as Katherine put her hands on her stomach again the two watching as the mist reappeared.
When Katherine pulled her hands back the wound was healed and no scar was left behind. She laughed in disbelief as Luther and Allison exchanged impressed looks, "I- I didn't think that would work!" In all of her years of being able to heal, she'd not once tried it on herself and she was ecstatic.
Katherine's happiness faded when she tried to move her legs again only to see they wouldn't budge. Tears filled her eyes again as she looked up at Allison and Luther, hating the looks of pity they both had plastered on their faces.
No, you're not going to cry again in front of them.
The brunette pep talked the tears away and closed her eyes. Katherine would like to think her powers would reverse her apparent paralysis, but she'd never been in a position like this before and she had no idea what to do.
Katherine knew she was powerful but she didn't know the full extent, she had no idea if it would even help her walk again. Even so, she did know she could at least do one thing.
When she opened her eyes there was a single wheelchair in front of her bed and she looked up at Luther expectantly. Her siblings glanced at each other knowing that Katherine would deal with her problems the way she always did— by ignoring them. He sighed before lifting her body out of the bed and onto it, watching as she began to wheel herself out of her room and towards the staircase.
"Alright I know damn well I'm not getting down the stairs by myself so, Armstrong Jr., you're up man."
