Mingyu looked at the baby, sleeping peacefully in his arms.
"We know nothing about taking care of a girl!" DK exclaimed. "Maybe we can learn," Vernon suggested.
"If you're hinting at going back to school, that's not happening," DK said, glancing at Vernon, who quickly shook his head.
"We have lots of books in this mansion," Vernon noted, looking around the spacious estate that had belonged to S.Coups's parents. After their passing, the mansion was handed down to S.Coups, and it had since become the boys' playhouse.
"It's impossible not to have books about humans, right?" Vernon added.
"I don't think I keep that kind of book in this house," S.Coups said as he walked down the stairs.
"Coups hyung." They all stood up and bowed to their leader.
He noticed the baby in Mingyu's arms. "I see you brought the baby with you."Mingyu nodded. "I'm sorry."
"What are you guys doing here, then? You should be taking care of the baby," S.Coups said, looking at them.
"That's the problem, hyung. We don't know how," Hoshi admitted.
"What do you mean? Raising a human child is almost the same as raising a vampire kid, except they don't feed on blood like we do," S.Coups explained.
Jun shook his head. "That's not it, hyung."
"Then what?" S.Coups asked, looking at Jun.
"The baby is a girl," Jeonghan told him.
S.Coups sighed before looking at Vernon. "This shouldn't be a problem for you, Vernon. You took care of your little sister, Sofia, right?"
Vernon nodded. "True, but—"
"Then I assume you can handle this on your own," S.Coups said.
"S-Sure..." Vernon looked away.
S.Coups was about to leave when Hoshi suggested, "Why don't we ask Sofia to look after the baby for a few months?"
Twelve heads turned toward him.
"And you expect her to leave her husband alone?" Jeonghan asked.
Hoshi rubbed the back of his neck.
"You know, that actually sounds like a good idea. I can give her a call, that is if you're okay with it, hyung," Vernon said, turning to S.Coups.
"Whatever works for you," he replied.
Everyone gathered in the living room, waiting patiently for Sofia, Vernon's little sister, to pick up the call.
"Hello, my brother. What's up?" Sofia's voice came through as Vernon put her on speaker.
"Hey, you're on speaker now," Vernon said.
"Really? So everyone's there, huh? Hi guys!" she greeted them.
"Hi, Sofia," Dino replied.
"Sofie, I—we have a favor to ask you."
"What is it?"
Vernon gulped. "Can you help us take care of a baby?"
"OH MY GOD! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID IT! WHO'S THE GIRL? DID YOU REALLY DO IT? OR DID ONE OF YOU GUYS DO IT WITH SOME RANDOM GIRL?!" Sofia yelled.
DK took the phone. "Sofia, calm down, okay? Just come here, and we'll explain everything. Bring your husband if you need to."
"Fine! I'll be there in a few hours." She hung up.
"Guys!" Sofia barged in.
"Hey, sis," Vernon started, about to hug his sister, but she pushed him aside and went straight to the baby still in Mingyu's arms.
"Hey, your brother's here," Vernon said, but she ignored him.
"Wait a sec! She's a human!" Sofia exclaimed.
"You can smell her, huh?" Minghao asked.
"That's my specialty," she replied.
"Where's Jack?" S.Coups asked about her husband.
"He has to be away for three months due to work. That's why I didn't hesitate to come here. By the way, Coups oppa, I thought you despised humans. How come—"
Sofia looked at S.Coups, but he only responded by avoiding her gaze.At the end of the day, the boys told Sofia everything that had happened.
"I'm sorry to hear that, Mingyu oppa," she said softly.
"Nah, I'm okay," Mingyu replied with a smile.
"Can I hold the baby?" Sofia asked, and Mingyu nodded. She carefully took the baby into her arms.
Sofia smiled as she looked at the baby. "I heard you don't like the other oppas. Do you like Mingyu oppa that much, little human?" she asked the baby, who blinked at her.
"Man, you're cute. What's her name?" Sofia asked, but was met with silence.
"Guys?"
Wonwoo rubbed his neck. "We haven't decided on her name yet."
"Haneul," S.Coups suggested.
Everyone turned to him.
"What? It just came to me," S.Coups said, looking away.
Seungkwan nodded with a small smile. "Haneul sounds perfect."
They all nodded in agreement.
"Okay then. Welcome to the vampire family, Haneul," Sofia said with a smile.
