It cannot faze us

Sabrina's POV

It was 10 AM and Colby and I were low-key falling asleep on the benches in the subway station. We were waiting for our ride to Brooklyn. We were too tired and lazy to rent a car on the first day, so we chose the subway as our temporary means of transport.

I was curled into a ball with my head on Colby's shoulder and my legs up on the bench. Colby seemed more awake than me cause of the coffee he had thirty minutes before landing. I, on the other hand, wasn't feeling awake at all, despite drinking three cups of coffee. The bags under my eyes were lager and my eye lids were heavier than my suitcases.

Colby was texting Sam while we were waiting. And, no matter how sleepy I was, I couldn't relax. I kept checking on the dress which was neatly folded and put in a separate bag and then put in one of my suitcases. The one containing the dress was up on the bench next to me, not for any reason at all, while the other one was laying on the ground.

- Hey, don't fall asleep on me. - He leaned his shoulder against mine.

- I won't - I groaned - I can't even if I want to.

I turned my head and buried my face in the space between his neck and shoulder, cringing at how weird everything sounded.

- What's wrong? - he caressed my hair gently.

I felt him turn his head too. His chin was now resting on the top of my head.

- You sound like you are talking to me from the bottom of a well. - I replied groggily

I had fallen asleep twenty minutes before landing and Colby had to wake me up which only made me more groggy and even a bit rude.

- It'll pass - he said while still caressing my hair.

I didn't wanna reply, I didn't wanna talk in general. I was overly cautious of how I sounded while I spoke, cause as I said, I tend to come off as rude when I'm tired or groggy. Colby knew this and kept the conversations between us to a minimum.

When we finally arrived to Brooklyn, I felt more refreshed. Everything was so familiar. I caught a few z's on the subway so I was feeling much better. Colby was dragging his suitcase and my heavier one. I had my backpack over my shoulder and was dragging my other suitcase.

- You've got the color back on your face - Colby smiled at me as we were walking down the sidewalk leading to my house.

He suddenly stopped walking, giving my living room window a glare. I stopped too, following his gaze. Within seconds, I caught onto what had him so concerned. There were shadows walking behind the curtains, silhouettes of people moving from one side of the room to the other. I didn't feel threatened or scared in the slightest. It could be Vanessa, Austin, basically any of my friends cause they all know where I keep my spare key and Vanessa even had a key of her own.

- What's going on? - Colby turned to me, the concerned frown still on his face

- It's not a big deal, really - I shrugged and carried on towards my front door - Many people have a way of getting into my house.

He hesitantly followed after me. I gave him a look that told him he should relax and he sighed. I did too before pushing the door as a test to see if it was unlocked. Surprisingly, it was. I knew all my friends locked the door of fear of letting thieves into someone else's house, so this was pretty strange. I frowned but didn't let Colby catch on the fact that I was a tiny bit concerned.

I stepped in, trying to come off as confident as I was a moment ago. I looked left and right, aka into the kitchen and living room.

The hurried footsteps that sounded like they were coming down the stairs in front of me surprised me and left me a bit frozen in place as I awaited whoever I was about to greet. What surprised me even more was the fact that the person coming down the stairs was my mom.
