**Timeskip: December 5**
Fio's POV
Today's my 19th birthday!
Daph and Anaielle were the only people who knew that though. My non-Walker friends and family would know that it's my birthday, but as far as I know, they're dead. 😞
Anaielle, Daph and I were just celebrating my birthday with potatoes in the potato storage room. Y'know, Walker stuff. Potato forts, potato fights, swimming in potatoes, cool stuff like that.
Daph pulled out her phone. I noticed that she was on the secret platform.
"Of all of the things that the solar storm destroyed, I'm surprised that the wifi still works," she remarked.
"Wait, it does?" Anaielle took her phone out of her pocket. "It does!"
"Great," I said.
Daph smirked. "That means... IT'S TIME TO BLAST THE AW MUSIC!"
"My pick," I went over to Daph and played Ignite.
"Doesn't it go any louder?" Anaielle complained.
"Nope, sorry," Daph shook her head.
And, of course, Anaielle started singing along. So did Daph. I have to admit, neither of them sounded that bad.
All of a sudden, Daph started coughing . At first I thought she was just joking or clearing her throat, but the coughing didn't stop.
Anaielle paused the music somehow, and I texted Alan from my phone.
__________
Fio: Alan we have a problem
Alan: oh no
Fio: it's ur sister, she just started coughing and coughing and she won't stop
Alan: thought so. Where are you?
Fio: the potato storage room
Alan: ok, I'll be there in a sec
Fio: thx
__________
In the meantime, I walked closer to Daph. "Don't worry, Alan's coming, but for now, just breathe," I told her.
A minute later, Alan came into the room and sprinted over to Daph, who was still coughing. He wrapped his arms around her. "Oh my gosh, Daph, breathe," Alan sighed and stuck his hand in Daph's pocket, pulled out her mask and put it over her lower face. "Can either of you tell me what happened before you texted me?" Alan asked.
"Well, since today is my birthday, we were getting some potatoes to celebrate. Daph decided to put on some music, and her and Anaielle sang along, and then she just started coughing, I thought she was messing with us at first, but the coughing only got worse," I explained to Alan.
He nodded. "Every night, I hope for her life to get better," he pulled his sister a little bit closer, and a single tear fell from his eye. He flicked it away.
It took a while, but eventually Daph stopped coughing.
Then, one tear rolled down Daph's cheek. Alan wiped it away with his thumb.
After a long moment of silence between us, Alan whispered something to Daph, she blushed hard, and with that, Alan left the room.
Daph's POV
**Timeskip: 1 hour later**
The three of us were just chillin', and I had to go to the washroom. But on the way there, some guy saw me in the main hall, stopped walking and smirked.
It took me a second to recognize him. It was Justin, the only other Walker in my whole town (well, my old town). He always bullied me.
"Daph, long time no see. I guess you're still alone," he cracked his knuckles.
"I'd say the same to you," I sighed and kept walking. Two guys came out from behind Justin and stopped me from walking.
"I'm surprised you haven't given up on the Walkers yet," Justin said.
"I'm surprised you haven't been banned from the Walker society," I shot back.
"You can't run from your own fate, Short Potato. You're forever alone and you know it," Justin shouted angrily. The words stung like I was getting punched with every word.
"I.. am.. not.. alone," I gritted my teeth.
"You know what? Look. I've got a gun right here, and a knife in my pocket. I'll be nice and let you pick how you want to be killed," he threatened and pulled out a gun.
I clenched my fists. I wasn't exactly sure what to say. This guy was gonna kill me for doing nothing.
Justin came closer. "Time's up. Knife it is," he stuffed the gun in his backpack, took a knife out of his pocket and sharpened it.
"I know... I'm not... alone," I said, sweat trickling down my forehead.
Suddenly, Justin lunged towards me with the knife. I dodged the attack, somehow.
I pulled out my phone and called Alan.
"Hello?" Alan picked up.
"Help! This guy's trying to kill me," I panicked.
"Where are you?" He asked. I sort of expected him to ask that.
"The main hall," I said.
"Alright, I'll be there soon," Alan hung up.
I messaged the Walkers of Origin group chat
Daph: help this guy is trying to kill me I'm in the main hall
Then I put my phone away.
Justin got up and smirked again. "You have no friends and no one's gonna help you anyway so don't even try."
"No friends? Oh really! I consider that a challenge. Let's see, Daph has over 40000 friends and you have 0," I heard a voice from behind me shoot back. I turned. It was #23653, #28714 and the other Walkers of Origin!
"I bet you still pray for Alan's spirit to save you late at night," Justin said
"I don't have to," I smirked, at perfect timing too, Alan just showed up. He wrapped an arm around me.
"Let's not forget that you have no family thanks to the solar storm," Justin said.
"Bruh," all nine of us shouted in sync. "We're siblings."
"Yeah, right," he rolled his eyes. He obviously didn't believe us. "Let's just get on with killing Short Potato here, who's with me?"
Silence.
"Oh, come on! You're no fun," Justin sighed. "I'll do it myself then. I doubt anyone here will help Short Potato anyway."
Multiple Walkers of Origin raised their fists as Justin sharpened his knife some more. After all of these years, Justin still bullies me. I wanna cry, but I can't, I won't. I can't let him get his way.
All of a sudden, the knife flew towards my chest, like in the dream from last month. But just before the knife hit me, a green orb circled me, and the knife bounced right off of it.
#28714 looked at me, shocked. "I thought I was the only one."
"What?" I asked.
"You remember about those abilities I have that almost killed me?" She asked in response.
"Yeah," I nodded.
She sighed. "I think you have them too."
