Ketsu marched into the large room now swarming with spies. Not even half of them were inside the confined space since most choose to guard the outer areas, but it was still very crowded, and yet they managed to keep a secure distance away from the machine that was just humming to open a gateway to a different timeline.
"Why would you do this! Are you crazy!" Enenra shouts glaring at his 'partner'. "It wasn't my fault, what if I would have died? Then they would have had open access to the gate, did what I thought was right." Kanashi stated in her melancholy tone.
Both wizards stood by the panel that controlled the Eclipse Gate. Sparks and wires hung from the many broken buttons and levers Kanashi destroyed in her panicked state, and even if the room was dead silent, both were too occupied with the machine to hear the clicking of there boss' boots.
"What is going on?" Ketsu asked his tone oddly sweet. The white-haired man was oddly happy, the Eclipse Gate should have had enough time to prepare itself, and he had just gotten word that the kids were recaptured by the newly appointed general of the spies, Ota Oyoami.
"Kanashi broke the gate." Enenra said in a childish tone, he hadn't meant to shift all the blame to his partner, knowing very well that Ketsu was harder on her then himself, but it just came out of his mouth without consent.
"What?" Ketsu growled out, his calm crimson eyes now brightening like embers, glaring daggers into Kanashis emotionless face. "That was not the case.." She tried to defend herself softly but a slap came to her cheek as the man looked over the damaged panel. "Thankfully, whatever you did, you didn't damage it beyond repair."
His fingers traced over a couple of buttons. "That just means it's going to take more power to get it started..."
Kanashi's eye widened in realization. She bowed slightly, her left cheek now puffy from the force of the man's hand. "Boss, I do recall you telling me that the old and new gate will also accept the sacrifice of a celestial being, correct?" Ketsu nodded, wanting to see where this lead.
"Something happened when I went to turn on the machine, a key came out.." She trailed off not knowing how to explain. "A special key."
Kanashi reached out her slender and pale arm under the machines panel. There was a slight dip to where the floor and the bottom of the panel met, leaving just enough space for her to reach under and grab a small object. There were two ways this would go, the object she was holding could, in fact, be the celestial spirit she only now recognized, or it could be a dead rodent, and she would be punished for leading her boss on.
She took a dead gulp of air before pulling her arm out to reveal a small golden object in her hands, dust bunnies covering it. Slowly, Kanashi dusted it off before placing it in Ketsu's open palm. "For you.."
Ketsu's eyes gleamed, but a wide grin appeared on his face. Not only did the thought of fulfilling his 'purpose' excite him, but also the thought of 'killing' a celestial spirit.
"Fine work Kanashi, knew taking you in when you were nothing but a weak and thieving brat was a good idea, you have proved useful." He praised and Enenra was left open-mouthed.
Ketsu pulled out his communication lacrama and tapped a pattern a cheerful voice came from the gem. "Boss Ketsu! I'm so glad you put me in charge, at first when you brought up the idea I thought you were crazy but then I realized you're not so bad! All the spies say your scary but I think you just need to smile more, maybe wear a mask or something to clear up your eyes! Not that they're not pretty or anything like that- no,- but I'm just saying you give people the wrong idea with that stuff you know! That reminds me of the time when my cousin-" The girl continued to blab and blab about her cousin 'Reece'.
