Tick. Tick. Tick.
With each second that passed time seemed to slow down by a fraction, counting down until he could leave. It felt like Virgil had been sitting in detention, alone, for hours. He hadn't even been set any work to do. He was supposed to just sit in silence for half an hour with no one but his IT teacher to keep him company.

Which fucking sucked.

It was beyond him why leaving students alone with there thoughts was seen as adequate punishment but here he was. Alone with his thoughts. As per usual.

He had found his thoughts wandering to Roman constantly and scolded himself. Roman was straight and had a girlfriend. Constantly pining after him would do more harm than good.

But he couldn't help it. He couldn't help thinking about the gorgeous shade of his eyes or his laughter filled smile or his insanely beautiful voice when he sang. He dropped his head into his hands and sighed.

Having a crush sucked. Virgil had no idea how to deal with it or what to do. He was so conflicted all the time. He hated it.

Ringgggg

Virgil's head snapped up, whipping from side to side.
One day he wouldn't be startled by that bell. But today was not that day. He stood up, grabbing his bag as he went, and headed towards the door without sparing even a glance for his teacher.

He only had 10 minutes of lunch left so he decided to skip food and go outside for some air before finding Patton and Logan.

He kept his eyes low as he weaved through the busiest corridor, focusing on the floor tiles. He made it to the door and pushed it open. He dumped his bag by the wall, intending to grab it again on his way to his next class.

There was a slight frost on the ground although the sun was still shining. It was coming into December and there was a chill to the air which Virgil welcomed after the crowded corridor.

He headed around the side of the school, towards the small wooded copse nestled by the fence. He walked close to the wall, running his hand along it absently. Loud, obnoxious voices behind him spurred him to speed up. Even if the boys weren't talking to him, he wanted to be out of their sight.

As he turned the corner he had a split second to register a figure moving towards him before they collided. Virgil stumbled over his feet, and landed heavily on his back, groaning as dull pain shot up his tailbone and heard a similar noise from the person he had knocked into.
Suddenly he froze and, looking up, groaned again.

It was Roman.

Of course it was Roman! Why wouldn't it be? Out of anyone in the entire school fate decide to choose him.

With his heart pounding he scrambled to his feet. "I-I'm so s-Sorry!" He said, panicked.

Roman stood up, shaking his head. "Don't be, it's not your fault. I wasn't paying attention. Are you ok?"

Virgil nodded. The pain he had experienced when he fell was already fading. "Are you ok?"

Roman nodded. "Arse is a little sore but otherwise I'm fine,"

Virgil felt his face flush and ducked his head, his fringe covering his eye's and most of his nose and cheeks, which were probably a bright shade of red.

Roman seemed to pick up on Virgil's nerves, although hopefully not the reason why and tried to ease the tension that hung thick in the air. "Where are you going?"

"J-just down to the trees," Virgil replied lamely, gesturing vaguely with a limp hand.

"Any particular reason or..?"

He shook his head. "I just wanted to b-be alone I guess,"

"Understandable. The school does get pretty hectic at lunch,"

Virgil nodded and was silent for a moment before he spoke again. "Roman listen I-," he stumbled over the sentence and felt his face grow even redder.

"What's up?" Rowan cocked his head slightly, which was fucking adorable but didn't do much in the way of calming Virgil down.

"I-I-," Ne struggled to find what too say, with his thoughts racing too much, forming into a jumbled mess.

His heart was pounding, threatening to burst through his rib cage as adrenaline  flowed through him. Roman was still looking at him with confusion masking his face.

Virgil was considering abandoning what he wanted to say when he was gripped with a surge of confidence. He had no idea why he did what he did next but there was no taking it back now.

Slowly, with trembling hands, he swallowed the lump in his throat and leaned forward.

Before he could stop to think about what he was doing, about the consequences it would have he kissed the red haired boy standing in front of him.

It lasted for only a second before Virgil pulled away with wide, horrified eyes. "I-I'm s-Sorry," he managed to say before turning and tearing away towards the trees, stumbling and panting. He didn't stop to look at Romans face. He couldn't bear to. He just ran.

As he ran though, he couldn't rid himself of one thought:

For a fraction of a second, before he pulled away, it had felt like Roman had kissed him back.
