"So, how're you feeling?" Patton asked as he, Logan and Virgil pushed open the door of the school.
Virgil thought for a moment before replying. "I'm doing ok. Better than before at least. Remy, Thomas's son is really nice so that's a relief,"
"Well I'm glad everything's working out for the best,"
Logan nodded in silent agreement.
"Thanks," Virgil said, grateful for their support.
As the three continued into the building their attention was caught buy a growing crowd of about three to four dozen people gathered around the notice board. Logan and Patton wandered towards it, curious, but Virgil hung back; the amount of people and the noise of their excited chatter put him on edge as crowds always did. He edged as close as he felt he could and tried to make sense of the insistent babble. He managed to pick up a few snatches of what they were were saying, not that much of it made sense.
"- who did they cast?"
"-popular people again,"
"-the lead?"
"-Roman of course,"
The mention of the redheads name spurred Virgil to move closer and investigate. He saw that, pinned in the centre of the notice board, was a list of what he assumed were names; from this distance he was unable to decipher them. One word was illegible though: the title in huge bold letters .
CASTING.
Ah. So it was a drama thing. The definition of a nightmare where Virgil was concerned. He had never really paid any heed to the notices before, knowing he wouldn't be interested in what they said or advertised so it figured that he had no prior knowledge of this. He hadn't even know the school had a dram club let alone that it was performing something or other.
He turned to scan an eye over the crowd for Logan and Patton but quickly whipped around again with his eyes downcast. Roman was striding towards the notice board, sporting a confident grin. Virgil recalled hearing someone say that he had been cast as the lead in whatever play they were putting on. No wonder he was strutting the way he was.
Cocky bastard, Virgil thought, and was annoyed by the hint of affection that came with it. Since their meeting in the library he had tried his best to smother any thoughts and feelings concerning the boy and had been, or so he had thought, succeeding.
He watched in slight fascination as Roman approached the group of people clustered around he board. When the students saw him they parted to let him pass like he was royalty, smiling and saying things Virgil couldn't pick up. He felt slightly envious of the way everyone looked at him like he was a god and wondered; not for the first time, and certainly not the last, what his life would be like if he was popular in school (Cue Wicked lyrics), how different it would be. The experience was completely alien to him, having spent most of his life as, an outcast was the word that sprung to mind.
He was about to turn away, shoving those thoughts to the back of his mind, when someone knocked into him from behind, sending him sprawling forward. Spinning awkwardly in his clunky docs to avoid bumping into a girl standing nearby, he regained his balance and looked over at who had shoved him, although he thought he already knew who the culprit was. His hunch turned out to be correct. Janus.
Virgil hissed through his teeth as the black haired boy smirked maliciously in his direction.
"Oops," Janus said, in a sick imitation of sincerity.
Virgil's heart was threatening to burst through his chest and his hands shook as his anxiety levels rose, but this time he was determined to stand his ground. He gathered the boy wasn't best pleased about the stunt Virgil had pulled last time they had been face to face and was prepared for the worst.
"Fuck off," he tried to put as much menace behind the words as he could, but his voice betrayed him. It shook and trembled as his chest heaved.
A quick glance around showed showed a few curious people watching. No one did anything to step in though."Ooh what was that? Trying to be tough? Pathetic," Janus' tone was scornful and mocking. It reminded Virgil of Draco Malfoy, though he couldn't say why he was thinking about Harry Potter now. A plan of escape would be better put to use.
"Fuck off," he chocked out once again. The end came out as more off a plea and his stress levels were rising.
