Virgil froze, his entire body tensing.
"Leave me alone," he hissed, trying and failing to mask his fear.
"No," his father replied simply. "You're going to come home with me,"
"That place isn't my home," Virgil spat, "It's a hellhole,"
He was beginning to tremble again and was barely holding back tears.Logan had moved in front of Patton, shielding him. Both of them were tensed like coiled springs, ready to move if anything happened. He glanced between the two of them. He was absolutely terrified for Virgil's safety but he kept quiet. For the moment.
Virgil's father just chuckled. It was incredibly unnerving and put everyone even more on edge.
"Ungrateful little brat,"
The tears that had been building just beneath the surface finally spilled. They rolled down Virgil's cheeks in a steady stream and fell onto the concrete below.
"Ungrateful?" He choked, his voice strained. "You made my life hell! What is there to be grateful for? You shunned and ignored me until you needed something, then you treated me like your personal slave! You acted like everything that went wrong in your life was my fault!" His face was twisted in anguish and Logan noticed that he was rubbing and scratching at his hands, presumably out of anxiety.
Virgil's father seemed to be growing angrier with every word his son said. His eyes were cold and steely and his hands were convulsing at an alarming rate. He took a step towards Virgil, his face twisted with drunken rage. Virgil backed up slightly with tears still shining on his face.
"You little bastard,"
He raised his hand as if to hit Virgil. This was the last straw for Logan. Darting forward he placed himself between the two of them, almost quivering with white hot rage."Touch him. I dare you," He said softly, ignoring Patton's frightened squeak.
Virgil's father blinked in surprise, as if he had only just took note of the other boys presence. He examined him for a moment before seemingly coming to a decision.
Logan only had time to register Patton's scream and Virgil's strangled no before he was struck against the side of the head. He was unconscious before he hit the ground.

"NO!" Virgil yelled, running over and kneeling beside the unconscious boy, tears coming thick and fast.
His father suddenly seemed to come to his senses. He backed out of the alleyway and left without a second glance at the boy he had rendered unconscious.
"No no no," Virgil sobbed, his voice frantic. He looked up at Patton who looked to be in shock. "I don't know what to do!"
Patton shook his head and knelt beside Virgil, his feared stained face suddenly set in grim determination. Rolling Logan onto his back, he pushed his head back to clear his airway (A/N idk how to describe it)
"Go get help," he said to Virgil, who nodded and staggered to his feet.
Still trembling he exited the alley and ran to the nearest passer by, a woman who looked to be about thirty."What's wrong dear?" She asked, full of concern for Virgil, who was still shaking and sobbing.
"M-my friend....he's h-hurt. I d-don't h-have a phone to g-get he-help," he managed to stutter between sobs.
With that he ran back to Logan and Patton, hoping the woman would follow, which, to his relief, she did.On seeing Logan, whose head was bleeding from where he hit the ground, she pulled out a phone and called an ambulance.
When the ambulance arrived Virgil had stopped crying and was staring straight ahead. He felt completely numb. It was his fault. If it wasn't for him Logan wouldn't be hurt.
Suddenly Virgil heard a voice in the back of his head.
Run away. End it. No one will care.
Patton will blame you. Everyone will.
Without knowing what he was doing he ran. He didn't know where he was running but he had one thought circulating through his head.
End it.
He ignored Patton's yell for him to stop, ignored the sound of footfalls behind him. He didn't stop until he came to a bridge.
Do it.
