When I found Erick lying on the bed in his room I went down and sat at the edge.
"I need to train with you and Derrick." I sang.
"Why?" He asked sitting up.
"My Trial is just finding a bug in the dark and I need your help. You being a shadow and all..." I trailed off.
"Kay but what do you need to do?" He asked.
"Have my eyes adjusted to a dull light I guess." I said playing with my bottom lip.
He nodded then got up. He went to the door opposite of the bed and slammed his fist against it.
"Get up and get over here!" He said.
Within a matter of minutes a human form started to shape within the shadows from under the bed. Derrick made himself visible to us and looked at us.
"What'?" He asked.
"Let's go train!" Erick said leaving the room.
We followed Erick till we were in a broom closet. Really a broom closet? Couldn't they find a better place?
"Why here?" I asked moving a dirty mop to the side.
"Because it's the closest darkest room we could find." Derrick said yawning.
I shrugged, "Whatever."
"Okay close your eyes." Erick said.
I did just that and waited till they said to open them. I felt the room go down a few degrees.
"Okay." They said, "Open them."
I opened them and saw...nothing. I placed my hands to the tip of my nose but I couldn't see them. I smiled this is perfect.
"Okay so I'll light a match. It'll be obvious but we'll blow it out." They said, "Turn around."
I did. I heard them pull out a match and strike it. I saw a light shine forward then go out. I turned around and saw a glow. It was low but I could see it perfectly. I saw the hand that was holding it.
"Most people can't see this." Erick said.
"But I can." I replied, "I think the glow will be brighter than that. Okay I think that's it. Thanks you guys." The room lighted up and I was able to see all the cleaning equipment. I opened the door and said, "You can go back to sleep Derrick if you want."
"Finally." He said walking towards his room.
I looked at Erick and smiled, "Wanna go play DDR?"
"You know it!"
I watched my family complete their Trials the next day and practiced some more. Nothing really important happened except for the fact that Nate made an all time world record. We got first place again with the Kempt coming in second. Steel ended up being last. We celebrated by eating a lot of cake later that night.
The next day J.J. performed and did well also. We ended up being tied with the Kempt clan and the Steel were behind by three points. Now Nate told me that I had to get the bug and cross the cave in under seven minutes so that I can get the maximum points.
"But aren't you scared I might mess up again?" I asked.
We were eating outside today, having some quality brother and sister time. I was sipping on some strawberry lemonade with a bendy straw and Nate was having a cup of iced tea.
"You won't mess up this time." He said taking a sip.
"How do you know that?" I replied. I started to swirl my straw counter clockwise. "I've been avoiding mom and dad for that reason. I know that they don't want me to do this."
