Present:
Today is the day before my wedding. It's finally here. I actually can't believe it. How did I get so lucky?
I turned in my bed. It's already 0900 but I don't want to leave my bed. Lorelei isn't next to me this morning. She went over to Alivia and Indiana's house this weekend so she can prepare for the wedding. Indiana is coming over tonight.
I didn't understand why Lorelei needed so much time to get ready. Lorelei really didn't understand it either. Alivia insisted she did need that much time to get ready and no one dares to argue with Alivia. Not even Indiana.
I had the house to myself today and I don't really know what to do with myself. I ended up getting ready for the day and made myself breakfast. I really don't know what to do with myself in an empty house.
I could paint but I don't really have anything to paint. I wander around the house looking for things to clean up (that's how bored I was). Lorelei likes having a clean apartment and so I think she would appreciate me cleaning up a bit.
I walked into my closet and decided to sort through some things. To be honest our closet is a hot mess. We have a lot of stuff in there and not much to do with it. A lot of it is stuff from our past lives that we can't part with yet. For me it's a bunch of broken paint brushes my parents had bought me throughout the years. Lorelei doesn't dare tell me to throw them away.
For her it's a box. I don't really know what's in the box but it's really important to her. I dig around through our closet and find my old uniform. I can probably throw it away since it is basically in shambles and I got a new uniform.
I just feel like I can't throw it out just yet. How could I, it's a part of me. The young soldier in the army.
Next I find Lorelei's uniform. She was looking in the closet the other day trying to find it so she could throw it away. I guess she couldn't find it or else it wouldn't still be in this closet. I take it off the clothes hanger it was on, walked into the kitchen and dropped it into the garbage.
I went back into the closet and rearranged our shoes and clothes. In the back of the closet I found Lorelei's box. All the contents were spilling out as it was knocked over.
I quickly picked up all the stuff and was about to put it back into the box when I noticed that most of it was paper. I took the box and walked out of the dark closet.
I sat down in the hallway and looked at the items. They were pictures of Lorelei as a little kid. In most pictures it was mostly Lorelei and a woman I'm guessing was her mom. Her mom was small, like Lorelei, but doesn't share many of Lorelei's features. However, her smile was the same.
In a few other pictures it was Lorelei and Alivia. One picture I found in the back was a picture of Lorelei as a small child and America as a teenager. I smiled at both of them. Lorelei was a cute kid.
Then I came across a family photo. It was Lorelei and her mom and then a man that wasn't in any of the other pictures. While Lorelei and her mom had natural smiles the man's smile was stiff and forced. He however had dark curly hair and bright green eyes. They seemed a little unnatural on him.
At the bottom of the picture was the caption "Commander Jameson (age 35), his wife, Laura (age 32), and his daughter Lorelei (age 12)"
So this was Lorelei's dad. He had the same hair and eyes as Lorelei but other than that he looked nothing like Lorelei. I stared at the picture for a little bit. Lorelei looked genuinely happy. As she should be, because back then she had both her parents. I just wish she would smile like that more often.
She deserves to be happy. I put the photos back in the box and put back in the closet. Then my phone rang. I ran to go get it because I was desperate to do something.
"Hello?" I picked up.
"Do you want to go get something to eat? My wife kicked me out, she said that I was being to loud. I was doing laundry." Indiana sighed.
"Sure, I have nothing to do in this house while Lorelei isn't here."
"Meet you at the diner in fifteen minutes?"
"Sure."
The diner is probably one of the best places to get food in the city. They make amazing meals. Indiana and I always go there when we go out to eat with each other. Alivia doesn't like going because she is always bloated after going and Lorelei literally can't eat after going because she stuffs herself.
I don't think she believes in left overs. So mostly Indiana and I go alone. I take the elevator down to the bottom floor and run into Sage coming back from a graveyard shift at the hospital.
"Hey Sage, how was work?" I asked as I passed him.
"Tiring." He yawned.
"I can imagine." I laughed.
"Well I'm going to sleep so I won't be napping at your wedding." Sage told me as he stepped into the elevator.
"See you at the wedding." I called out to him.
He smiles at me and the doors close. I walked out of the High Rise and feel the cool night air. It's a little on the chillier side today. About 56 degrees. I enjoy the cooler weather but Lorelei doesn't like it so much. She gets cold really easily. I don't blame her but she freezes in 70 degree weather.
The diner isn't too far away, only about a ten minute walk. I enjoy walking around the city. I'm glad Lorelei convinced me I didn't need a car. The cool air clears my head a little and I turn onto the street the diner is on.
Indiana is waiting for me outside and we walk in.
"Hey Indiana, can we get the food to go? I kind of want to eat in the park."
"Sure. It feels wonderful out here."
"Agreed."
We walk into the diner and order our food. That's when I notice Indiana has dark circles under his eyes.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
"What, oh, well I haven't been sleeping much." He answers.
"Why not?"
"I've been taking care of Luna Rose. She has a fever and Alivia has been working with Lorelei 24/7 so I don't get to trade off. No offense to you but I can't wait to get this wedding done with." Indiana puts his face in his hands.
"It's all good. I want it to do done too. But for different reasons."
