I run out of the car and raced to the door. I don't want to miss Caleb. I never get to see him anymore now that he's got his new jobs. I love him, and I'm glad he gets to go to college, but I miss seeing him all the time. Well, maybe not all the time. He's not exactly a saint. But then again, most brothers aren't. I throw open the door and go to find Caleb.
"Hey, Emma!" One of the people at the front says waving at me.
"Oh, hey, Lacy. Do you know where Caleb is?" I ask, walking farther into the store.
"Yeah, he's in the back. Do you want me to get him?"
"That would be great." Lacy walks away, and I suddenly realize that Tessa and Peter didn't follow me. I swear, sometimes I'm like her mom.
I run back outside and see Tessa sitting in the driver's seat. What?
"What is going on? Tessa, you don't know how to drive."
"I know. That's why Peter is teaching me."
"What?!" For the first time, I notice Peter is sitting next to her. He looks pretty scared of me. Good. If Tessa doesn't want to learn, she won't.
"I need to learn, Emma. Peter has his license. You go see your brother, and I'll be right here. Learning to drive." I can see the terror in her eyes at the thought of driving. Why can't Peter see that she hates this?
"You don't need to learn Tessa. We live in New York."
"Yeah, but I'm going to college. I do need to learn."
"Fine, but you guys need a chaperone. I'm not sure if I trust you, Parker."
"Emma, it's fine."
"Fine! Have fun."
"Hey, say hi to Caleb for me, okay?"
I smile. "Sure."
