I watch as the Jones' run out of the room. I'm sorry. I think as I watch them leave. I feel so vulnerable. The smallest thing would make me break down in tears right now.
Well, at least that's over. It hadn't ended as bad as I thought it would, just Mrs. Jones couldn't handle the thought of her daughter dead. And, I mean, I really can't blame her. I start to walk to the door but then stop and give a shuddering breath. It's okay, calm down. Calm down. I think, but I could feel the anger washing over me. I need to get out! I stumble out the door and walk over to Tessa's room. I open the door to see Tessa and the famous Peter Parker sitting on the bed talking quietly. I don't know why, but for some reason, I feel the need to interrupt.
"Hey, guys! What's going on?" They both jump. Peter backs away from Tessa guiltily. I knew it! They're doing something shady, like drugs or something! It's probably all Peter's fault. Tessa would never do something like that.
"Umm, I'm going to go get a snack." Tessa stands up. "Emma, do you want to come with me?" I can tell that it's not a question.
"Sure, Tes." I open the door as she turns to Peter.
"Do you want to wait for us?" Geez, girl. Even I could tell that that was awkward.
"U-u-umm, sure. If you're okay with that." He answered.
"She offered you the option. Of course, she's okay with it!" I say. They both look up in surprise. Tessa looks at Peter, then walks to the door.
"Bye." She gave a slight wave, all sweet and innocent. As soon as I shut the door, Tessa wheels on me.
"What in the world was that entrance?"
"What? You're the dramatic person. You know the importance of a dramatic entrance."
"Emma, we were having a conversation. You interrupted us!"
"Yeah, what was that conversation? You guys were acting weird."
"We were just, umm..."
"Were you talking about me?" Why would they be talking about me?
"No?" Tessa says.
"You suck at lying." I knew that wasn't it, but I felt so mad.
"We weren't. Why would we?!"
"I don't know?!"
"Then why are you blaming me for that?!" She snapped. I was silent. We eventually stopped in front of a vending machine. She turned to me.
"Do you want anything?" She asked. I could tell that she was still a little angry at me.
"No, I'm fine." She pulls her phone out of her pocket.
"Can you give me Peter's number?" Why does she want his number?
"Um, yeah." I give her his number and watch as she sends him a text. We wait for a minute, doing nothing. Then Tessa gets a text from Peter and lights up. She turns and walks over to the vending machine and gets a pack of Skittles. I look at her quizzically.
"For Peter." She explains, picking them up from the machine. Since when do you care about Peter's Skittles?
"Umm, are you sure they're not for you?"
"Noooooo... I don't like Skittles."
"Since when? You've liked Skittles since forever. The green and pink ones are your favorites."
"Skittles have so much sugar in them. I wouldn't eat those if my life depended on it." She looks at me curiously. "I thought you knew."
I choose to ignore the last statement and focus on the first. I roll my eyes. "Dramatic much?"
"Hey! I'm not the one being dramatic. You are! What's up with you?"
"NOTHING!" I yell. "Sorry... Nothing. I'm fine. I'm just going to... I'm just going to go home if that's okay?" She looks unsure but just nods.
"Yeah, it's fine... get some rest, okay?"
"Kay. See you tomorrow." I feel tired and I don't want to deal with people anymore. I just want to go home.
