Parker! I'm gonna kill him! What is he thinking!? How am I supposed to pay for anything if Tessa breaks up with me? I pull out my phone, smoke coming out of my ears.
I open up the school directory and search for Parker, Peter. His phone number, email, and home address all pop up. Seriously? Do they make all this public? That's stupid. My finger hovers over the screen to tap out the phone number but something stops me. I don't know what.
Whatever, Tessa would never break up with me. The only reason she did last time was because of that stupid West girl. She's always interfering with our relationship.
I can hear a voice in the back of my head contradicting me. You did cheat on her, and you still are. If you don't like Tessa, then why date her? But I knew why, and for me, it was a good enough reason. Because if I don't, then I won't get the money I need. I take a deep breath. None of this matters now, I'm supposed to be meeting Mia. I had been in the middle of going over to see her when Emma had texted me so I had to go to the hospital. I had to pretend to be a good boyfriend in front of Emma so she wouldn't make us break up again.
I turn the corner and spot Mia waiting there. She looks at me and smiles slightly.
"Hey, you've been late a lot, what's up?" She asks, looking almost genuinely concerned.
"Just Tessa, she's been super needy lately."
"Oh, don't worry, baby. You can just relax now." She looks up at me from under her long, thick lashes. I can't help smiling as she wraps her arms around me and pulls me into a nearby Jack in the Box. I have my arm around her and pull her close to me. We order some fries and drinks to go, and then step away from the counter. I hear something hit the ground and look up to see Emma picking up her backpack from the floor. I freeze. Wherever Emma is, Tessa is.
I lean over to Mia. "Um, I think we have a problem."
"Oh? What's wrong?"
"Emma and Tessa are here." Mia stiffens and looks quickly over her shoulder, then turns back. "What should we do?" I ask. Just as she opens her mouth to speak, I see Emma look over at us and cover her mouth with her hand. She turns to Tessa and points at us. Tessa looks up, and our eyes meet. She stands up and quickly walks out. I leave Mia behind and follow her. Emma gets up and follows me. She looks like she's about to punch me. Mia cries out from inside, but the door closes behind me before she can finish. Then I see Tessa walking up ahead. She has her head down. I run up to her and grab her arm. She looks up at me, her blue eyes full of tears. She rips her arm out of my grip.
"Don't touch me!" She yells, causing a few people to turn their heads. I didn't have anything to say. I stand there looking at her as she walks away.
"You jerk!" Someone yells from behind me. It's Emma. "You had so many chances to end it! Why wait? Why cheat on her again?!"
"Oh, and you're so much better, huh?" I say rudely. "You're just using her, too. We both know the only reason we even talk to Tessa is for money." She looks shocked, angry, even hurt.
"No. You're the one using her. How dare you even look at her? You don't deserve her and you know it." I stop. She's right. I shake off the negative thoughts and walk towards Tessa.
"Tessa. Tessa!" She turns around.
"Get away from me." She grabs Emma's arm and starts to walk down the street. She turns around. "We're done! You have no respect for me or my friends! You are the cruelest, most demeaning person I have ever met in my life, and if you ever even look at me or Emma again, I will tell everyone what you did to me!" And with that, she's gone.
