Fun fact: all her life, Tessa has had these dreams about ways she or her family could get hurt. The most disturbing one was when she had a nightmare that her father had a baby with another woman.

"What'd you dream about this time?" I ask, concerned.

"It was weird. We were in a car crash, and-and, you died."

"Well, I'm still here, aren't I?"

"I guess." She hugs me. "Thanks. I needed that." We go to our separate homerooms. I'm still thinking about her dream. I'm not really scared of me dying, but I'm scared of what would happen to my family and friends if I died. Especially Tessa.

I sit down, and all of a sudden I feel drained. Ugh, why am I so tired lately? I slump down onto my desk, closing my eyes. I start to drift off.

Slam! I sit up quickly, eyes wide.

"Sleep well, Ms. West?" Mrs. Johnson inquires, glaring down at me. I would have if you hadn't woken me up! I think. I hear the girls next to me laugh. I glare. Yeah, like you haven't ever been tired before!

"Ms. West, do you need detention?"

"No, I don't." I'm watching drama rehearsal after school with Cicily. And that means I can't get detention.

"Well then, I suggest shaping up. Sleep at home, not school."

"Sure, Mrs. Johnson." The bell rings to go to our next class and I quickly stand up, not wanting to spend another moment in there. The next class flies by pretty quickly, and soon it's 3rd. Yay, I get to see Spider-Man, yippee. I think dryly. Tessa walks up to me as I'm walking into class.

"Hey, what's up?" I ask.

"Ugh, I hate school!"

"Yeah, besides that?"

"The group project sucks."

"Really? I had no idea. Is it because of your jerk partner?"

"Um... well, kind of?"

"Mmhmm, told you he was a jerk!"

"He's not a jerk! He's just really busy with football, so he doesn't have time to help me with it."

"Yeah, that sounds more like an excuse to not have to do it, and like a jerk move."

"No, it sounds like he's serious about his future, and like he wants to do his best."

"And that sounds like a bunch of lies you read in a handbook that tells you how to ignore the fact that your boyfriend is never around."

"Emma! He's in there!"

"So, he should have walked you to class!"

"Uh, um, he-"

"Aha! No excuse for that!" She rolls her eyes and walks into class, sitting next to Jack. I drop my binder on my desk and sit down right as Peter rushes in.

"Emma, I'm so sorry I was late, but please, please don't tell anyone about," Peter says then lowers his voice, "you-know-what." I see Tessa looking over at us.

"You mean, the fact that you're-" Peter covers my mouth.

"Shut up!" He hisses. Then he looks at his hand on my mouth and drops it, turning red. I smirk. He is so awkward.

"You are so gullible, Parker. Do you really think I would do that? I'm not an idiot." He mutters something under his breath. "What was that, Parker?" Now he looks scared.

"N-nothing." Yeah, right.

"Well, I have stuff I need to do, so goodbye!"

"W-w-what? We're supposed to be working on the project!"

"I know. Tessa's partner sucks, so she has to do it all."

"So, why does that mean that you have to go?"

"I have to help her. You'll be fine for one period." I gather my things and get up. "Can we meet up again tomorrow?"

"S-s-sure, I guess." He stutters. I walk away.

"Thanks!" I call over my shoulder. I walk over to Tessa. Sure enough, Jack is screwing around on his phone. I sigh and set my stuff down. Tessa looks up in surprise.

"What are you doing over here?" She asks, confused.

"Helping. You obviously need it." I say, nodding towards Jack.

"Thanks." She smiles. I sit down as we start planning out the project.
