Thank you so much for 300 reads!
I know I've been writing the story from Mares POV then doing the same part from Cal's but carrying on a little bit and is one and this chapter will be the last chapter but form Mares POV as she did different stuff to Cal. This won't last through all the chapters and I will start writing the next part of the story from the next persons POV rather than overlapping everything. Xx
So back to the story
The person in front of me is not Eve. It is someone I recognise but not someone I have spoken to a lot, if ever.
"What do you want?" Larentia asks. Her voice harsh but weak. Not what it used to be. There is a twitch in her left hand and her hair is unkempt. "I'm sorry, I was looking for someone.
"Well, they're not here. Good day to you Miss Barrow and whoever that is," she says gesturing to Ti.Her eyes can't seem to stay focused on any one thing and constantly flit around the corridor. They land on something. "Who are you?" Larentia asks and I turns it see who she's talking to. My eyes widen as Evangeline stands there staring at her mother. "I'm- I'm" Eve stutters. Larentia's head begins to tick as she looks at Eve with blank eyes. She doesn't know her. Julian told her to forget.
Eve turns and runs without another word and I run after her, still holding Ti and my bag. She doesn't stop. "Eve!" I yell. "Stop running." She only stops once she reaches, what I presume is the room she is staying in, and goes inside, sitting down on the bed.
"Eve," I say gently, sitting down next to her. I set To down at the head of the bed. She looks up at me and I see the tears in her eyes. "Oh Eve," I pull her in for a hug. The door bursts open and I pull away to see Ptolemus stood in the doorway. Behind him stands Wren.
"I heard Mare yelling, are you alright Eve?" Ptolemus asks. She just shakes her head and once he notices her tear stained cheeks, Ptolemus rushes to the bed and embraces his sister. "Did she see her?" He mouths to me and I nod assuming he means their mother.
"It's okay Eve," Ptolemus whispers in a soft voice. "We can leave right now if it makes you feel better. Or you can just stay here for the rest of the day and do nothing. I'll stay with you." Eve shakes her head rubbing her red eyes. "Thank you but I can't. I've got a meeting."
"What meeting?" I ask.
"A Council meeting about something important. Julian asked us to go, I was coming to find you." I wonder what the important thing is."We best be off then," I say.
"Are you sure you're alright?" Ptolemus asks. Eve nods. "I'm fine." She stands up and so do I. "Would you mind watching Ti for me until the end of the meeting? It shouldn't take long."
"Of course," Wren says.Eve and I leave the room and head to the meeting room. "Why weren't you with Cal?" Eve asks.
"We had a argument." Eve stops in her tracks."What?" I ask stopping where she has.
"About what?"
"Neither of us having written, Maven."
"What about him?"
"Me not having let him go."
"He yelled at you about Maven?!"
"Yes."
"I'm going to kill him," Eve mutters. I laugh and roll my eyes at her.
"Please don't. I just need to talk to him."
"Fine." Even folds her arms across her chest then says "But we need to get going. We're going to be late."I open the doors to the meeting room and Eve and I enter. "Sorry we're late," I say "some stuff happened." I didn't want to elaborate in front of everyone. Luckily Julian took the hint.
"Not to worry," Julian says having stood up. "There aren't any spare seats so-"
"We're fine standing," I interrupt him going to lean against the wall. "Please carry on, we'll just watch." Julian nods and turns back to the large circular table everyone is and sat around.I notice Cal's eyes lingering on me but I don't look at him. I look around the table and one of the faces surprises me. Will's here. I haven't seen him in years.
"So what's everyone's views on the matter?" Julian asks. What matter?
"I think we should tell them," Cal says. "We need all the Newbloods who lost their abilities to come forward so we can collect as much information, about how it happened, as we can." Wait, Newbloods have lost their powers? I remain quiet so I can try and understand what's going on.
"I agree with Cal," Cameron adds. "One of them must have an idea of how it happened."
"I'm not so sure we should announce it," Farley says. "We've just got out of war, do we really want to tell everyone something like this? Something that could potentially mean someone is targeting us again?"
"You mean you think someone is doing this?" Sara asks.
"Of course," Farley says. "Which is why we can't tell everyone. We need to talk to the three that have come forward and see if anything was left out. We need a rundown of everything that happened before they lost their abilities and if anything is similar then we have a lead. Once we have an idea about why this has happened then we announce it." Farley always has a good view on matters like this.
"I like it," Julian says. "Ok, I'll call in the three Newbloods and Farley, you can be in charge of that. Once you've got all the information you need then we'll have another meeting to discuss the next step."
"And if nothing comes up?" Cameron asks.
"Then we'll think of something else then," Julian replies. "Meeting adjourned."Everyone rises from their and I glance over at Cal who begins to talk to Ada Wallace. I haven't seen her in so long; I haven't seen anyone in so long. I see Will and beckon him over. I hug him as soon as he reaches me. "I haven't seen you in so long, Will!"
"I know. How is everything going?" Only a minute later Cal approaches us but Eve drags him away before he can say anything. A few minutes later they return. Will and I speak about how life is for us. I tell him about Ti, he tells me about being on the Council."It was so good to see you again," I say hugging Will.
"It was good to see you too." We pull apart and Will walks off, leaving me free to talk to Cal."Hey," he starts.
"Hey," I turn to him with my arms folded over my chest and don't say anything else.
"I'm very sorry for what I said earlier. I shouldn't have pushed you about him or the burn or anything. It's your choice and I understand why you've kept it. I guess, even after this time, I'm still very angry about everything he did, especially what he did to you."
"I'm sorry too. I overreacted. I guess it makes me angry too. Let's just try not to argue for awhile." I lean in to kiss him. I'm just glad he apologised. I want everything to go perfectly so I won't dwell on the argument.
"Well, that will be a challenge for us," he whispers against my lips before we kiss passionately."Get a room lovebirds!" Cameron calls from where she's talking to her brother and now Eve.
"Cameron!" I say running over to hug her. "I haven't seen you in so long."
"Mare, it has certainly been awhile. Did Kilorn come with you?" I almost laugh at her eagerness to see him. I kind of wish I had brought I'm with me, now, but then I remember he is on that fishing trip anyway.
"No," I tell her. "He's on a fishing trip with a friend."
"Friend?" Cameron asks. "Is she cute?" She whispers the second part more quietly though I'm sure Cal can still hear her.
"He," I whisper back, "is adorable."Cameron smiles in relief and straightens up. "Well I best be off; I have training scheduled in 10. I'll see you guys later."
"Bye," Cal calls after her. Morrey leaves as well."Where's Ti?" Cal asks me.
"With Wren," I say "I should probably go get him."
"Don't worry," Eve says, "I'll watch him for the rest of the day. You two go have fun."
"Are you sure?" Cal asks.
"Of course. I love Ti. I'll see you two later." She turns and walks out of the room, leaving just Cal and I."So what do you want to do today?" Cal asks.
"I'm not sure. Any ideas?"
"We could spar, or after all this time, have you lost your touch?" he says with a smirk.
"Oh you're on," I say grinning and we head to the training rooms.-~-
Hey guys. Hope you enjoyed the last two chapters. I made extra time to write today since I hadn't updated in a while before yesterday. Are there any preferences whether I write their training from Mare or Cal's POV or both?
Also if you have any suggestions or want me to include anything in the story, just message me.
I'm very happy as I thought of the perfect ending today so it's just about writing everything in the middle now. Don't worry, it's not too soon.
Again, hope you enjoy xx
