{Author's Note: uhh, this is a percy jackson au. it's set in camp half-blood and the reader is the child of apollo. i had serious writer's block with this, i had no idea what to write. so, it might not be as good as my others.}

"Varian, I don't think that's a good idea."

"Pshh, oh please, (Y/N). Nothing bad could happen." Varian said, waving a hand in your direction.

Flying shoes.

One of his inventions from being a child of Hephaestus. Your boyfriend invented his own pair of flying shoes. This was going to end badly. In so many ways.

Varian did a little tweaking, before he slipped them on. Using his screwdriver to tighten the bolts on the side of the shoe.

There was a snort of laughter. "What are you trying to do now, kid? Become a child of Hermes with those shoes?"

"Eugene, no one asked for your opinion. Also, get out before you trigger a ground bomb." Varian quipped.

Rapunzel's boyfriend, Eugene was a child of Hermes. God of traveling and trickery. Him and Rapunzel met on a quest, that needed the children of one Apollo, Hermes, and Ares. Hence, Rapunzel from the Apollo cabin and Cassandra from Ares.

Helping Varian stand with the shoes on, you gripped onto his shoulders. "I, honestly, think you shouldn't do this. Last time, you tried these on you flew into a tree. The nymphs and satyrs were not happy."

"Well, this isn't gonna turn out like last time. I worked all the kinks out, and if I regain my balance, nothing bad could happen."

"Oh, Varian." Rapunzel said, solemnly. "I mean, this in the nicest way possible, but your balance is kind of iffy." She was standing a few feet away. Along side her was Cassandra. Careful not to be in the blast zone.

You see she learned from her mistake, from the last time.

There was an explosive accident. Since, Rapunzel was the closest to it at the time, it hit her the hardest. The chemicals settled into her hair, causing it to become a bright red for the past few weeks.

"What Rapunzel is trying to say is that you're a klutz, Varian. No way, you're gonna have balance on that thing." Cassandra snickered.

You sent Varian a glance filled with worry. Sending him a smile, you instead try to encourage him now. "I'm sure, it'll work. Just don't get hurt, alright?"

Grinning, he kisses your cheek quick. "I'll try not to, love."

With that, he turns on the shoes. It starts to flap wildly, taking Varian a couple inches off the ground. Slowly, it ascends him up. The three of you watch as Varian rises off the ground, lifting higher every minute.

"Holy shit, you're actually doing it." Eugene says. Mouth agape, as he turns his head to look at Varian.

Suddenly, a screw flies off, then a second one along with it. The wings of the shoes start to flap slower, bringing Varian down.

You wince, seeing thick gray fog escape the sides. "That's not good."

Varian was going to tumble down and if you didn't find a way to secure his landing, he'd fracture his bones.

Using quick thinking, you grabbed Eugene's shirt sleeve placing him on the spot, where you thought Varian would land. Soon enough, the wings of his shoes stop moving and your boyfriend spirals head-first into Eugene.

The two fall to the ground.

"Yeah, no, that's okay, just use me as a human pillow." Eugene sarcastically snarks out. "Totally fine with that."
