"Are the binds really necessary, M'lady?" Varian called out as he tugged on the ropes strapping him onto the chair, beneath him.

"You don't get to call me that," a voice spat out within the darkness. "You lost the privilege to call me that, the day you decided to leave me."

The smirk Varian held at the beginning faded. Like it was never there in the first place.

"(Y/N)-"

"No! You don't get a say in any of this! Three years! Three years Varian! You left me crying, cold, and alone for months! I didn't know where you went! I thought you were dead! But it turns out you just escaped with Lady Caine!" You screamed at him. He hurt you. He left you. Not only you, but he left his son.

The day word got to you that he escaped, sent trembles down your spine. He was gone. You were pregnant and he left you to raise Percival alone.

You didn't know how what to say to a 4 year old Percival when he asked where his "dada" was. Luckily, you had Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra to help you every step of the way.

You both turned your head when you heard the creak of a door opening. Revealing Percival who was rubbing his eyes and holding a teddy bear in one hand.

"Percy, honey, what are you doing up so late?" You asked in a sweet voice, glancing back to Varian. Who was hidden away from Percival in the darkness of the room.

"I heard you screaming, mommy," Percival said tiredly.

"Aw, I'm sorry dear, I didn't mean to. How about you go run off to auntie Rapunzel's room and ask her to read you your Flynn Rider books, okay? Mommy's a little busy right now," You grabbed Percival's hand and ushered him out of the room. Only closing the door, when you saw him dash through the hallway and enter Rapunzel's room.

"Percy? Short for Percival, right?" Chuckling a little, Varian continued, "You choose the name we picked out together."

You glared at him, "Yeah, but that's not what we're here to talk about. We're here to talk about, why the hell you come back now? All these years, no letter, nothing to tell me that you're okay, or that you'll come back at all! What makes you think that you can come back now!? Just came through the balcony for godsake and waltz in here, like you haven't been gone!"

"Darling, please-," Varian tried to say.

"Don't call me that!"

Varian tried to speak again, but was cut off.

"You only had one more month! One more month and you'd be out, we could have been a family again, like we were before you were thrown in jail! But you just had to escape didn't you?! I was 22 Varian! I was so scared, I was worried for you!" You didn't understand. Or was it that you didn't want to? You were okay before he had come back into your life. You coped. But now that was all gone, just because he had to resurface those feelings you buried. The ones you buried down. Deep down.

"You have to listen to me!" Varian pleaded.

Your eyebrow arched, "Why should I?"

"I didn't have a choice, (Y/N)! It was either I go with them or they would kill you. They would kill our son! I couldn't let that happen!" You started to let your guard down more, Varian seemed to be telling the truth. "It took me longer than I thought for them to trust me. But when they did, I betrayed Lady Caine. She's not a problem anymore! We can live as a family now! Just you, me, and Percival."

Wait, did he- "What do you mean she's not a problem anymore?" You ask, worried about the answer he'll give.

"You know when you have a bug problem? You spray the bug and watch as it slowly dies from the toxic fumes? Let's just say Lady Caine was the bug." As Varian spoke, his eyes started to darken. You shivered as you remembered the day his eyes first turned like that.

Varian straightened up, wiping his tears away. "Don't blame yourself, I know you tried your best." He turned around looking at you with his ocean blue eyes. "It's not your fault, (Y/N). It's Her fault."

That sent a chill up your spine, the air around you two turned colder, darker almost. Even Ruddiger stepped back a little, hidden under a chair.

"Varian, I don't understand. Who's-"

He cut you off, sharply saying, "Rapunzel's."

"Varian did you-, did you kill her?" Horror was written all over your face. You didn't believe Varian, your old sweet Varian was capable of killing another human being.

He let out a laugh. It wasn't the kind hearted laugh, you once knew. It was a cold and sarcastic one. "Of course I did! She stood in my way! I got rid of her for good! But you have to understand it was for us!"

"No Varian! Their is no us! At least, not anymore. Even if I wanted too, I couldn't." You turn to look away from him. You couldn't stand to face him. He's changed so much and you couldn't bare it.

Lowering his voice, Varian asked, "Why not?" You heard the Varian you knew. The one that would faint at the mere sight of blood. The one that would have done anything for anyone. At that moment, he sounded like the true Varian. He spoke with the softness, that you didn't want to say you missed from him. Those years without him took a toll on you.

"Because you're a criminal, a murder! Rapunzel-"

He cut you off, "Rapunzel?! Oh please! She wouldn't even dare to try and stop me!"

"That's just it Varian! You've changed. And it's not good, you said you did this for 'us' but that's not what I wanted!" You yell at him.

Varian's face contorted to anger and confusion. "What do you want then?! Maybe if I stayed? Maybe if I hadn't betrayed Lady Caine? Or maybe if I didn't-"

"Shut up! 'Maybe' doesn't let you go back and fix it! Just leave, Varian!" You didn't want to do this. But you had too. Untying the ropes you open the balcony door. Leading him out where he came.

His expression turned to a frown, "(Y/N) please! I promise I can fix it! I know I can! We'll be a family, I swear!"

"Don't promise me anything. Just leave, before I call the guards." Why wasn't he leaving?

"But-" He turned to you, once seeing your expression he paused. He knew he had to leave, you clearly didn't want him here. But he couldn't make himself do it. Closing his eyes, he sighed. Stepping closer to you.

His face saddened when you took a step back. "I love you, (Y/N)." It came out as a whisper, then he fled.

You knew you promised himself he would return. You promised yourself that you would be ready when he did.
